Anytime with this build I go to the Edit Menu, and click the Preferences option, I get an insta-crash. It politely asks for my email address to send y'all a report, so you've got a few from me filed there.

I'm in the same boat. 14.8.0, 34[R], Windows 10 Pro Version 20H2. No bug crash window for me though 😢

The fix is in 14.9 Beta build 006, which was posted today. It should also be in 14.8, when it ships.

Be aware that there may be issues importing some QuickTime and MPEG files with the 14.9 build. A fix is in the works and should hopefully make it in a day or two for 14.9.
