After upgrade: Premiere locks up immediately after launching

I upgraded Premiere today. After launching Premiere, I got the typical yellow "media pending" screens on timeline clips and in the markers window. After footage appeared on the timeline, I pushed play and got the bouncing beach ball of death. I relaunched premiere, and seconds after my project opened, without me even touching the keyboard, Premiere locked up. It continues to do the same thing, even after rebooting the computer, and reinstalling Premiere. Please, I need some immediate help since I have a deadline in two weeks, and I can't make a single keystroke at the moment. Who can I call?

What changed about your system configuration, between "it works now!" and "it once again fails to work"?

Any positive results, following the steps MyerPj posted?

Betweeen "it works now!" and "it once again fails to work," nothing changed in the system configuration. Premiere just stopped working again. Several relaunch and reboots later, I reverted to a previous version of Premiere. Media Pending is still on screen for a longer amount of time than it was before I upgraded, but if I give Premiere time to load before I start editing--go get a coffee sort of thing-- things work okay. Video playback can be laggy--it wasn't before the upgrade--but having patience, sometimes by just taking my hands off of the computer keyboard when video doesn't load or playback hangs up, seems to be the workaround. Sometimes the video doesn't just lag but the video freezes and the audio continues to play. MeyerPJ's steps didn't help, which is why I ended up reverting to a previous version of Premiere.

I haven't upgraded again, yet. I'm about to deliver a PBS documentary. I
planned to wait to upgrade after the project is finished and delivered.
I'll try to remember to let you know how things go after the upgrade. Feel
