Application Crashing unexpectedly, cpu temp spike

Hi, i am hoping this is the correct place to post this...

Premier Pro version 25.2.1 build 2

i just started experiencing this issue when i am picking back up a project to work on and i have been working on it just fine....i opened up the project and it spikes my CPU temp to threshold lvls and crashes the application......its happening everytime when i even start a new project and import media....

my main OS drive is an NVME where i have Premier Installed.

I have my media on a separate SSD and i even have Media Caching on a separate SSD.

I dont understand why this is happening....

I dont get an error, it freezers the application and shuts off and i see my Rog RYUJIN III  Fan displaying CPU Temp either 85 or 90....when i reopen Premier Pro it just says it crashed unexpectedly earlier and reopen last open file....

I also have an RTX 4090. Any help would be appreciateed.

Welcome to the Premiere Pro forums and sorry you're experiencing issues.

A few questions to see if we can narrow this down:

• You mentioned this is happening on both new and working projects—have you tried opening the Progress window/panel to see if anything is happening in the background that might be leading up to the crash or is any specific action triggering it?
• What kind of media files are you working with?
• Have you tried launching Premiere Pro and holding down a modifier key/s (like Control, Alt, or Shift) as it's loading to disable third-party plugins and clearing your media cache?
• Are your drivers up-to-date and using Studio version?
• Are you getting a crash report dialog box? You can check the "Adobe may contact me" box and add your email so we can look it up on our system.

seems to me its happening when PEKK files are being generated or im viewing the previews for my media (.mp4's)....its wierd because up until last week this issue was not happening....now it seems to be consistently happening with any project and any media in the media browser that i am previewing....

This time around i got the error where it asked me to send the diagnostic report and have adobe contact me so i selected that option and provided my email. Hope you can catch something in the error report because i cant seem to get my head around this....

Looks like you need to undervolt your CPU. I have my undervolted and it never reaches 80. I have a 14700K and an MSI motherboard and on an MSI it's done easily - via the lite load modes. Asus I suppose does not have one, but there are guides on the net. It has nothing to do with a particular Premiere Pro version. Premiere Pro has a ton of CPU extensive processes on different levels of use (for instance in 25.2 they added the new AI search which starts analyzing the materials exactly when you start a project), so since it started to happen, your AIO is getting old. No worries, just undervolt.

Thanks for the advice and i will try to do that however as i have no experience in this....i want to know if undervolting it would have any performance impacts on the CPU itself.

It depends how accurate the undervolting will be. Here's an example - my CPU hit 33000 + points before undervolting (at stock values), showing 96 degrees in Cinebench 23. After - it hits 34600 barely reaching 85 degrees.

So in video editing I never get higher temperatures than that, normally it's below 75 degrees.

Two things you should pay attention to. 1) The ambience temperature is highly important. You may not feel when it's getting 5 degrees higher in the room, but your CPU definitely will. 2) Don't overdo the undervolting. Use only the safe methods your mobo suggests. Whilst undervolting is completely safe and will not do harm to your PC components, at some point of it you'll start getting crashes in the apps. So before even starting to work in Premiere Pro, test your CPU with Cinebench, Prime95 or OCCT thoroughly. In my experience I once passed all the tests, my Premiere Pro didn't crash, everything was fine but some games from Steam refused to install, so once a lessened the undervolting, the games installed OK. Check eveything, every app or plugin before getting to work.

Andrew The Great, it most certainly has to do with this newest version of Premiere Pro and After Effects. I have also experienced GPU & CPU spiking and consistent 'very high' Power usage. None of which was an issue before these latest updates.

Hi All,

So i am able to resolve this issue by working with Proxies...literally just discovered the wonders of them recently and that has resolved all my issues....its just sad to know that despite having a bad ass PC, it was still running into this issue...oh well. PROXIES for the WIN.

Update:  I rolled back to version 25.0, which entirely took care of the issues I was having. Guessing the Generative Extend AI stuff was really doing a number on my workstation. No issues since I rolled back.

According to a message I received during Adobe support chat, "Thank you for the time and patience, I can totally understand your concern and I want to tell you that its already been highlighted to the team and team is working hard to fix it and it will be fixed in next update." 

So while I hope a solution will be found soon, there doesn't seem to be anything in the latest version that I need to use now.
