Most clips made on modern phones are recorded in H265 HEVC HDR 2020.

When you import these clips in Premiere you can see in color options it is seen as 2100HLG

With MediaInfo in explorer you this however

BT 2020 colorspace.

If you drag this clip in a FIXED HD 709 timeline (auto tone map set to 709)

The clip should look alright, but that's not the case!

steps to repro

download this democlip

https://tkooijmans.stackstorage.com/s/N1rtNxpKGMrZOnnt

import this clip in Premiere CC2025.1

check media properties, you wil see 2100HLG

create a new HD1080p 29.97  sequence

drag the democlip in the sequence, you get a mismatch warning, select keep existing!

result

clip doesnot look allright, it's much to bright

workaround fix

select the color setting of the clip in the projectpanel

set override to color rec 2020

Now you wil see that your HD 709 sequence looks ok.

Tips for broadcasters

set the camera of your phone always to h264 format, this does not support HDR so can't go wrong!

Color primaries : BT.2020 Transfer characteristics : HLG Matrix coefficients : BT.2020 non-constant

Media is indeed HLG. The Color primaries being BT. 2020
In fact Rec. 2100 HLG is = ( Color Primaries BT.2020, TC : HLG),
So, Premiere is recognising this clip correctly. However , we are still trouble shooting why you are seeing the results in color correction that you have been. To help troubleshoot this, we real

Thanks for providing the sample clip, I can see what you're describing. May I ask which phone you recorded this with? And I'd be interested to know what camera settings are available and were set when recording this image.

I used a Google Pixel 8, recoding was done with the standard camera app.

recording setting was H265 and 10bit HDR HD 29.97 fps

With the free Black Magic camera app, you have more options.
