BUG mono channel only when im uploading stereo

Community Beginner ,
Mar 17, 2025 Mar 17, 2025

Issue

When uploading a video in Adobe Premiere Pro, it automatically converts the audio to mono, even when all settings are configured for stereo. Despite verifying the sequence settings and export settings as stereo (48,000 Hz, AAC 320 kbps), only one channel is heard and exported.

This issue is unacceptable and directly jeopardizing my job, and I demand a full refund immediately.

Adobe Premiere Pro Version

  • Version 25.1.0 (Build 73)

Operating System

  • macOS Sonoma 14.3.1

System Info

  • MacBook Pro 14-inch, Nov 2023
  • Chip: Apple M3 Pro
  • Memory (RAM): 18 GB
  • Startup Disk: Macintosh HD

Video Format

  • H.264
  • Resolution: 1080x1920 (Vertical)
  • Frame Rate: 23.976 fps
  • Audio Format: AAC, 320 kbps, 48 kHz, Stereo

Workflow Details

  • Single-camera edit
  • Standard timeline (no multicam or proxies used)

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Import a video file with stereo audio into Premiere Pro.
  2. Drag the file into the timeline.
  3. Confirm that the sequence settings detect the audio as stereo (48,000 Hz).
  4. Play the timeline audio – only one channel is audible.
  5. Export using H.264 with stereo AAC audio (320 kbps, 48 kHz).
  6. Open the exported file – only one channel is present.

Expected Result

  • The audio should play and export in stereo, with both channels audible.

Actual Result

  • Premiere Pro forces the audio into mono, playing and exporting only one channel despite all settings indicating stereo.

@aurinko_5562,

A screenshot of the timeline and audio channel settings would be useful.

> Play the timeline audio – only one channel is audible.

That is the problem; if not solved, it will not export correctly.

In the Project Panel, right-click the clip and click on Media File Properties. What does that show for Audio?

And then the same for the sequence.

Stan
