I reported this a couple of months / years ago, but it is still present in the current PP23.6:

In Windows, it is possible to initiate file copy / move operations in any file fialog, so even in "Open", "Import" Dialogs, you can CTRL-C / CTRL-X / CTRL-V a file to copy or move it. In recent Premiere versions this is a sureshot way to immediately crash Premiere.

Thanks, but no, it's a fresh install. It happens on every Windows machine with current Premiere Versions. Its a bug.

If it's a bug, it's a very limited one. I'm total PC, and haven't had a single issue with this. And I copy/paste all the time. Can't replicate.

So ... if it's a bug, we'd need a lot more detail to narrow down why/when/who ... like full hardware specs, OS, media used, effects used, project size/complexity ... and if this happens on all projects or just this one.

So did you try to replicate the bug? CTRL-C a file in Windows Explorer, outside of Premiere, go to "Open File" Dialog in Premiere, right-click for context menu "Create New Folder" in the "Open File" Dialog, enter new folder, CTRL-V to copy file to new folder.

I can replicate this bug on Windows 10 and Windows 11 on vastly different HW platforms. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with the actual premiere project, for what its worth, it can be a completely NEW and EMPTY project. i think i have an understanding when it is necessary to report HW specs, this is not one of the cases.

I'm puzzled. You copy a video file, then go to Open Project dialog, then try to paste that video file in the Open Project dialog.

I don't understand this attempted process at all.

That dialog is only for selecting a project file to open. Nothing else. Why are you trying to paste a video file through the Project Open dialog?

Oh my, ok.... A file  dialog in Windows is just a "special use" explorer window, which allows you to do all the stuff you can do in any explorer window. Like create folders. Move files. And so on. Try it in any other software, it's pretty standard and useful. Unless it crashes your app.
