metadata & timecode burn-in video effect malfunctioning

I have applied the metadata & timecode burn-in video effect but did not see it. On a hunch I adjusted the vertical position and was able to raise it into view. However as soon as I released the mouse the time-code window disappeared. Seems like a bug. Attached screenshot shows result when I am actively adjusting the vertical position, but as soon as I release the TC window is gone.

Thanks for writing in with the bug report. The experience you describe doesn't sound right and it might be a bug. In order to have the reproducibile steps ready, can we have a few more details? See, How do I write a bug report?

You might want to include info about your source footage and sequence settings. I hope we can help you after learning more. Sorry for the problem.

Steps to reproduce: Apply effect to clips in sequence. Expected metadata window is not visible. Change vertical position brings it into view but releasing mouse results in non-visibility.

Expected result: visible timecode window over clip

Actual result: no visible timecode window.

Hey Andy,

After applying the same effect to a 4K clip in a 4K sequence, I understood your issue a bit more. I could only position the metadata lines in the upper-left quadrant of the clip. Something is odd with that.

@Kevin-Monahan I opened the project in the Beta version of Premiere. Same result. Visible time code not too useful if it's not visible!

@Kevin-Monahan I just discovered that when I send the project to Media Encoder the TC is visible. Kind of solves my problem although not ideal.

Hi @andyR10 this looks like a known issue.  It is happening because the clip is larger than the sequence size.  We have a bug report filed on this issue

@andyR10 I believe this is related to a know issue with differing resolutions between your media and your sequence(s).

I'm going to assume your video is currently on track V1.  Can you please create a new Transparent Video clip in your project that matches your sequence resolution, and then place that Transparent Video clip on an empty video track above your video (say, V2).  You can then use Metadata & Timecode Burn-In effect controls to target the video clip on V1, thus displaying V1's data in the Transparent Video's Burn-In, without the source resolution of the V1 clip causing display complications.

@Ben Insler Thank you for this workaround, it worked perfectly. Yes, my sequence is 1920x1080 whilst the source footage is 4K. The transparent video track with the effect applied does the job.

@Todd_Reeder this exact same issue is happening to me, 4K video in a 1920 sequence, but it's only happening with the 4k MP4 footage filmed on my Sony A7SIII and not the 4K MXF footage shot on my Sony FS7.

Another workaround is to right click on the clip in the timeline and select 'Scale to Frame Size'. I found that the effect works normally with 4k clips in a 1080p timeline. To reproduce the problem, switch from 'Scale to Frame Size' to "Fill Frame'. Then you'll see that the timecode display behaves eratically. This continues to be an issue with Premiere 25.0 (build 61).

You 'kinda' loose the ability to zoom in when you use Scale to frame size as PP dumps the pixels. Better to stick with the work-around mentioned above.
