Modifying Timecode in 2023.6

Contributor ,

... does not work.

When i change a clip's timecode to any time (1:30:00  for instance) it always shows up as Media Start 00:00:00:00 in the bin. Not even closing and reopening the program helps, i have to "replace clip" with itself or delete and re-import into the project anew.

Same machine with PPro 2022: Everything (sorry: this ...) works.

(Tested on three different machines)

@Stan Jones

Thanks for the detailed explanation.

So, we can assume that the problem is not solved, in both directions, Alternate to Original and vice versa.

Let's hope for the final release of 24.4. In my case, at least, I've got a manageable workaround.

Testing in Beta 24.4.0.35.

Bottom line: still not working correctly.

I find it odd that since I reset preferences and cache on opening the Beta update and this is a new project with a fresh import of the previous clip, it shows the last Alternate timecode I set in yesterday's testing. But I guess that is how the replace works around the issue?

So at the start, Modify -> Timecode, Project Panel, and Source Monitor all show Alternate and the "correct" timecode.

Modify -> Timecode, change to Original, shows original there, click OK, no change in PP nor SM.

Reopen Modify Timecode, shows the Alternate is still active. Cancel.

Modify -> Timecode, change to Original, shows original there, click OK, PP and SM now also show Original.

Modify -> Timecode, change to Alternate, click OK, no change. Did this 3 times, never changes from original.

Replace footage with same clip. Shows Original time. Modify and pick Alternate shows the alternate time, but OK does not change PP nor SM from original.

Not sure if you're still dealing with this bug.  The easier work-around was to change the timecode and then make the clip offline and then relink it.  Once relinked it has the new correct timecode.

I found another workaround. Set the project panel in list view, then right click on the column's name section to enter in the metadata visualization window. Type "time" in the search box and you'll find the alternative timecode option. I checked "alternative timecode" and inside that there is "time value" and "time format". The new column shows the original timecode! I copied it and pasted it as the new timecode in the Modify timecode window. Less than ideal fix but my fear that I accidentally screwed the metadata of the file I was working on is gone.
