.MP4 files once recognized now unrecognized

As I was working on an edit the last few days (footage is .mp4 from Sony A7s iii) randomly today the entire project and every frame began to receive the error code for Error Retreiving Frame. This includes errors for every frame on timeline and the original footage imported in bins.

Ive tried clearing Cache. Uninstalling and reinstalling premiere. And the obvious restart of computer. But still for some reason the .mp4 files that were once recognized, can no longer be imported to the project. When I try importing new copies, it only imports as audio.

Hi @zacharyb1996 ,

Thanks for the message. Welcome to the forums.

What version of Premiere are you using?  What, if anything, changed?  Can you give me more info about the mp4 format?

Please give the team a few more details, if you have time. See, How do I write a bug report?

I hope we can help you shortly. Sorry for the pain points.

Did you begin the project in 25.1 or upgrade midway?  If you roll back to 25.0 does that resolve the issue?

Does the same error occur when you load the footage into a new project?
Sometimes there are errors that have nothing to do with Premiere itself.
I  can´t recall how often o got error messages and in the end it was because the disk space was full.

Yes I've tried starting fresh in new project. Still only recognizes the audio of the .MP4. I've tried moving project to the main hard drive versus external. Still same issue. The .MP4 is still recognized by QuickTime but Premiere continues to reject it.

Have you updated Premiere in the meantime?
If not, you could convert a file with Handbrake as a test, take the file offline and then link it again with the converted version. (Dont forget to toggle off file extension)
This is not a solution but perhaps a workaround if nothing works.

.MP4

MPEG-4 movie

3840x2160

Linear PCM, HEVC

HD (1-1-1)

And I'm using Premiere 25.1 Mac

As of what changed, nothing. I was finishing up with adding sound FX to my project and out of no where all frames stopped being able to be read within timeline and the original files themselves in the bin.

This applies to all files I've shot in past using this camera. But before this error, I've never had issues before.
