Can anyone suggest WTF is going on???

All other clips shot at the time are fine, but of course this is the critical clip for my production.

My setup:

MBP M4 Max 128GB

4TB SSD, with 2TB free

OS Sequoia 15.5

PP 25.3.0 (build 84)

Any help much appreciated.

Variable framerate is known to give issues

Convert to constant framerate with Handbrake or Shutter Encoder before bringing into Premiere.

Thanks very much Ian.

Here is a Vimeo link to the original file: https://vimeo.com/1094688559 password is ‘test’

I couldn’t get it to work in any format until I downloaded a more compressed version from Vimeo (standard 4K one), which works fine and, luckily is OK for my purposes quality-wise. The original shows as working fine, but only 5s in duration when opened in any CC app (so I couldn’t even transcode or re-wrap it in ME).

Works fine in QT and on Vimeo, but also was restricted to 5s in VLC and they were the final 5 seconds, where Adobe only saw the first 5s!

Thanks for any help.

Best,

Dominic

Hi @Dominic Witherow
Thank you for the file. It is giving us the same issues on our end. What Iphone captured this video clip?
Going to see if we have had similar issues.

On windows too: 5 seconds.

Usually when clips do not work property in Premiere they won't either in ME.

Never transcode vfr in ME, most of the time you will end up with the wrong framerate.

Hi, it was iPhone 14pro. I suspect it is an overheating issue. Just desserts for cutting corners and not using a proper camera!

LATEST

I have discovered the same issue in another clip, which has allowed me to narrow down the specific circumstances. Maybe this information will help.

The clips were both shot on iPhone 14 Pro (fully updated), using Filmic Pro set to 30fps MOV, with mid-level image stabilisation set. Both clips did not save in the normal way when I finished filming and both cut off the end of their respective recordings. They both gave a message that said "can't save to photo reel atm, but don't worry, the videos will be saved to the Filmic Pro gallery". Both clips were shot whilst the phone was mounted on a DJI Osmo 6 gimbal.

I suspect that a combination of overheating and gimbal did something. What's so odd is that the videos play flawlessly (apart from the truncated endings) in Quicktime on my Mac and in Photos on both Mac and iPhone. It's only when played by any Adobe software or VLC that they are limited to 5.02s.

I'll see if I can make them useable with conversion on some 3rd party software (Handbrake didn't work last time, but Vimeo did).
