P: Glitchy Video in Timeline

Community Beginner ,
Jul 20, 2024 Jul 20, 2024

After I upgraded to 24.4 several days ago, I can no longer edit MXF video files. The video in the timeline is glitchy, with pixelated blocks displayed whenever something moves in the scene. The glitches are exported in the final render, so it’s not a temporary or display-only issue. (If I render the MXF to MP4 with HandBreak, there are no glitches in the output, so I think the MXF container is OK.) My camera is unchanged and I’ve used this workflow hundreds of times. I went back to an editing session from before the 24.5 upgrade and all is fine–no glitches. I cleared the cache, rebooted my Mac, checked the sequence settings, but nothing helps.

Hi @gustav_3204 - Thank you for all of the detailed information.  We have a fix for your issue and is currently in Beta version 25.4.0, and will be available in the next version of Prmeire Pro version 25.3.0.

While we don’t recommend using the Beta for production, it installs alongside the release version, so you can safely test the fix. You’ll find it in the creative cloud desktop app.

Hi @AlexClaude - Can you let us know the firmware version you are using for your FX6?  Can you send a sample file and project that you can reproduce this issue to jamiec@adobe.com

Can you post screenshots of your export settings?

Have you tried changing the Encoding Settings > Performance to "Software Encoding"

My favorite part of this bug is that now the glitches are moving! The pixelation is now appearing in different parts of the clip where they did not appear before.

This is so clearly an Adobe issue and still with no fix. This does not occur across any other programs or use cases. Frustrating.

The workaround is to transcode to Prores, but that's not really appreciated file size-wise.

Switched to DaVinci a few months ago mainly because of this (after 10+ years in premiere). Tried premiere today just to see if they fixed it. Don't know how they can charge 60 euros for this.

Screenshot 2025-03-24 at 6.28.07 PM.pngI'm having an issue with a glitch. It's only happening on one camera angle (canon r5c) and is consistent. It's does not happen of the orginal clip.

Idk if anyone else is having this problem, but I've tried everything from updating my drivers to the latest versions, to checking for updates. I'm up to date on everything. I do a lot of video work and for the past month I've been having this problem with premiere when I'm editing and playing back. One minute it's fine and the next time I use premiere these blocks pop up with glitchy playback. I've tried rendering my workspace and it's still there. I tried exporting it to see if it's just a small bug but it shows in the export. It doesn't make sense because the original clip doesn't show the artifacts. It only happens in premiere and after I export my videos. I've tried switching to an older version and it worked for a bit but it goes back, so I switch back to the recent version. I don't know what else to do so at this point I'm sure this is a bug on adobe's side unless there something I missed. This started once the latest update arrived.

Please use the free MediaInfo and post a screenshot of the properties of your media in tree view:
https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo

Many users are having issues with VFR. If the file is variable frame rate, use Handbrake to convert to constant frame rate before importing into Premiere Pro:
https://handbrake.fr/downloads.php
Here is a tutorial:

Shutter Encoder may also be used to convert to Constant Frame Rate:

Hi @eegriff and Everyone -  We’ve made some updates in the beta version 25.4.0 build 16 that may address the issue. While testing is still ongoing, we appreciate the reports that helped guide our investigation. We’ll share more information as soon as we’re confident in a resolution. Thank you again for your patience and support.

Hi Jamie,

I have had so much trouble with glitching on the timeline, I delete all render files, empty the caches, start a new project…import a project, change drives…done it all, but on export I still get the glitches, but its random, not at the same places. The only fix I have had that has worked was to export in ProRes 422 HQ HLG,

Drop this back onto another timeline and then export it to my settings that used to work…HEVC (H.265) Main 10, 5.2, High, Rec.21 HLG, 203 (75% HLG, 58% PQ) when it exports, its perfect, a lot of fluffing around, but its the only way a can get an export without glitches, I hope you guys can fix this prono

No, not tried it yet Jamie, the Beta versions tend to not import settings like the keyboard set up and presets...or was that older versions? I'm concerned that the Beta version will mess things up…or am I being over Overcautious?

I always have the current public beta loaded, running naturally separate projects from my main Production using the current version.

And the public beta always 'sees' my keyboard shorts and other preferences things from my standard Premiere user files.

- PC neu aufgesetzt
- Grafikkartentreiber aktualisiert
- Unterschiedliche Premiere Versionen verwendet (23,24,25)
- Adobe Apps neu installiert
- Caches gelöscht

Just to say I've started working on a new project in the latest version of Prem Pro and am getting the dreaded glitches at nearly every edit point on my timeline while playing back (not exported anything yet but presume they'll be there too having read a lot of the posts here).

Working with 4K footage shot on Sony cameras using MXF files. Clearing media cache etc hasn't helped.

AMD Ryzen 9 5950X

128 GB RAM

RTX 3080 GPU

Win 11 Pro

Which Sony cams, as they create different files. Accurate data is more useful.

Some Sony created mxf are definitely a problem for Premiere, and occasionally Resolve.

I wasn't on the shoot so didn't see the make and model. Have run it through Mediainfo and the model wasn't in the data.

I'm saddened you felt a simple question was snarky and unhelpful. It was just Basic Troubleshooting 101. Literally.

In order to get 1) bad app behaviors identified and/or 2) users working again, it always takes correct data. Quite frequently up through OS/CPU/RAM/GPU/GPU driver, the specificmedia in use, the effects used ... asxa starting point.

@jamieclarke - I've spent a bit of time exporting some problematic clips in the 25.4.0 BETA build, and it looks like the particular issues I've been having are fixed! This includes Media Encoder as well.

When can we expect this fix to be rolled out into the stable version of Premiere Pro? A rough timeline will help ease a lot of tension in my office!

Sorry...I installed the Beta version and it messed up my Loupedeck, I can’t run two versions of adobe...so I uninstalled the beta version, I hope you guys can find a fix for MXF files soon, it’s so annoying, glitching is a pain as its usually never in the same place.
