P: Premiere Pro Ver 25.1 (Adjustment Layer w/Transform | Wild Glitchy Preview updates)

Community Beginner ,
Mar 25, 2025 Mar 25, 2025

Premire Pro Issue - When using transform effect on adjustment layer (spec follows seq setting), to reposition and scale the video layers below. There is a steppy, glitchy preview as position is updated. ie. sliding x-axis position  / you would imagine to see comp of video layers below to uniformly slide to the left smoothly as deciding new position. However, experience is a wild preview throwing image all around the screen only to show updated preview when use stops changing position info.

Steps to reproduce - Change position info on "v-layer 05" transform effect.

  • Sequence Setting (2000x2000, 23.976, ProRes-LT)
    • v-Layer 05: Adjustment layer w/transform effect [slide position]
    • v-Layer 04: VFX-Animation (2048 x 2048, 24, Animation-QT w/Alpha)
    • v-Layer 03: Production footage (2560 x 1440, 23.976, ProResLT) - EFFECT: Ultra Key
    • v-Layer 02: VFX-Animation (2048 x 2048, 24, Animation-QT w/Alpha)
    • v-Layer 01: Production footage (2560 x 1440, 23.976, ProResLT)

  • Expected result:
    • Smooth shifting of video layers (comp) below adjustment layer w/transform effect. Looking for a smooth and refreshed update preview of video as info is changed. Looking for accurately deciding position.

  • Actual result:
    • There is a glitchy preview as position is updated. Preview is unusable until stop changing position info.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro version:
    • Ver 25.1

  • Operating system:
    • Mac OS Sequoia v15.1

Hi @Parker22039040v8dr ,

Thanks for the bug report.  Does your issue seem similar to this one?  Have you tried turning off hardware acceleration?  If you disable the adjustment layer, does it play back smoothly?

I hope we can help you soon. Sorry for the frustration!

Hi @ricothegiant,
Thanks for the awesome video.  I appreciate the effort that went into it, and it clearly outlines the difference in smoothness.  Are you using an adjustment layer, or is it applied directly to the clip?

Does this sound similar to what you're experiencing?  Adjustment Layer w/Transform

In my experience, the Transform effect used to move things in an Adjustment Layer can be wonky at times. So I try to stay with the "intrinsic" motion/position controls in the ECP for working with ALs.

Yes, thanks agree. But, it worked just fine in Premiere v22

Adjusting certain effects' parameters in Premiere is so ridiculously buggy and has been for a VERY LONG time. I've almost learned to live with it but it would be great if this could be fixed. For example with the Transform effect, whenever I need to change the parameters I have to click on the word "transform" for me to get a smooth preview in the program monitor which would honestly be fine, if it wasn't for it then jumping around the screen. It's like I either have to choose a laggy preview overall or a really smooth preview but I can't place an image excatly where I want to without having to go to war with the effect first. This issue has been present on all versions of 25 and I believe 24 as well.

My PC Specs

  • i9 14900k
  • 96GB Ram
  • RTX 4090
  • 3 NVME SSDs
  • All Drivers are up to date

I'm not sure if this explanation does it justice so I provided a video as well.

Hey Rach,

This issue happens pretty much in general, weather it's on a clip or an adjustment layer. It also doesn't matter if it's an image with no effects, like in the video or an actual video clip with effects.

The issue that's in the linked thread also sounds like what i'm experiening which is completly different from the other issue with the transform effect preview completly bugging out in 25.1 (example of this seperate issue here: P: Transform effect is glitching when modifying the value ). The problem i'm having is still apparent even in the lastest version.

Interesting.  Thanks for that extra information.  What is the "latest" version you're using?

LATEST

I'm currently on 25.0. 25.1 had even worse issues with the transform effect and all versions of 25.2 has pretty bad performance issues for me.
