Premiere Pro 2024 Transcript and Closed Caption UI Lag

I used to love using Adobe's AI Auto Closed Caption/Transcripting feature, but for some reason ever since I've been on the 2024 versions of Premiere Pro, the UI features an excessive amount of lag time between clicking a UI element and it responding. For example, the (...) ellipses is the worst of it. I've dumped cache, adjusted windows within my screen, nothing seems to improve the speed of this feature's UI lag problem. 

I'm working with...

• MacPro Studio, M2 Ultra, 64GB of Ram
• Sonoma 14.3
• Premiere Pro 24.5.0 (Build 57)

I've added a screen recording, it might be hard to see, but soon after I hover over UI elements, I am clicking them and then have to wait upward of 20 seconds for it to open and respond. 

There are other UI elements in general that feel laggy as well with premiere. I'm starting to consider moving to a different NLE for my next project. 

Side note, export UI seems almost equally awful and laggy. When it starts to encode, it's fast, but getting there is like pulling teeth.

Update: I decided to uninstall Premiere Pro, restart, and then reinstall a clean version to see if that would resolve the issues, and it did NOT work. Wanted to mention before someone suggests that option.

I don't think that UXP Panel 1 is normal. Interesting that the Text panel appears correctly when you "open" it. (Unrelated to your issue, since the beginning of the new Text panel, it never has a check in the Window menu, even if it is open.)

I know there have been issues with some Macs, but I am not expert in that area.

A full reinstall needs special attention, and you must be sure to reset prefences and start with a new project.

For troubleshooting, please try deleting the media cache: FAQ: How to clear your Media Cache in Premiere Pro.

You might also have a corrupt project. If deleting the media cache does not improve performance, consider creating a new project and importing the assets from your current project.

It looks like the clear cache did not work for me, but I did transfer the sequences to a fresh project file and that seems to have resolved the it. There's still a slight delay, but it's like 1 second versus 20 seconds. The UXP Panel did show for a moment, but then quickly opened to the text window. Much more usable. Thanks for the new project transfer suggestion!

What kind of media are you working with? How long is your sequence in duration? If you mute the captions, do you get better performance? If not, can you try copy/pasting the contents of your sequence into a new sequence? Try these things and let us know if the situation improves.

How long is your sequence in duration? 13 minute documentary

If you mute the captions, do you get better performance? If not, can you try copy/pasting the contents of your sequence into a new sequence? Try these things and let us know if the situation improves. When the captions are already generated, the project worked fine. The timeline editing is mostly smooth. It was purely the UI of the Export and Text windows that were slowing things down, but the transfer to a fresh new project helped a lot. 

For more context, this project has been passed around a lot. The original project was started on premiere 2022 or 23, but since then I think the updates may have disrupted things, but it wasn't apparent at first because I wasn't exporting or captioning anything until recently.

Second update: I may have spoken too soon. The transcript UI windows intially were smoother and faster when I migrated my files to a new project, however I'm trying to caption a sequence right now and the UI is slow/unresponsive again. When I click on the Captions and Graphics workspace, it shows the UXP Panel for like 20 second before changing to the proper text window.

Update 3: Completely uninstalled all adobe products and creative cloud. I also uninstalled Maxon plugins to remove that variable. I then reinstalled Adobe Premiere, but captions system and export system is still terriblely slow. Like embarrassingly bad. I have an extremely fast mac studio and extremely fast internet at work. There is something seriously wrong with Premiere. I have resorted to copying all audio I need captioned and have put them in a separate sequence which seems to speed things up, but it's still not perfect. Many times if I want to caption or export, I have to close the program and reopen, just to get the feature to work. This has been beyond frustrating.

Update 4: I think I have a good hunch of this bug. It may be related to monitors. I have a dual monitor setup. I'm using two older 2K mac monitors. I disconnected one of them restarted my machine and when I clicked the Export tab and the Captions window set up they both were much more responsive with the UI. Still not super snappy, but if I clicked "more presets" in the export settings, it would only take a second or two versus 20+ second when I had both monitors plugged in. I'm not getting new monitors anytime soon because these work great, but I'd hate to have to unplug one everytime I need to export in a timely fashion.

Good troubleshooting. When you use both monitors, do you have any floating panels? Are you using custom workspaces?

Is your project set to import workspaces?

I'd do a test, first with one monitor, turning off import workspaces from project, use default workspaces and standard presets, restart PR, create a new project with one clip, etc, and test. Then 2 monitors with standard workspaces.

When you use both monitors, do you have any floating panels? Sometimes, I switch between modes like editing, Graphics and Captions, and custom ones where I have windows floating on the second display.

Are you using custom workspaces? Yes, but the issue seemed to occur when I was in normal default workspaces as well.

Is your project set to import workspaces? I've never imported a workspace, but I've saved custom layouts.
