"Replace with AE Comp" does not import "frame hold" clips properly

This used to work many versions ago, but has been broken ever since (23.1).

If you make any speed adjustements and create an AE comp, then you get proper time keyframes in AE reflecting the speed change. But if you use "Frame Hold" on any clips in PP it will be treated as a normal playing clip in AE, no freeze frame.

I have reported this in the past, when that "bug" came up the first time, but didn't get any response. Do better, Adobe.

Hello @huyt63327659,

Thanks for the message. It’s been a long time since you filed this bug, and I apologize for the lack of a response. Are you still having this issue? If so, the team will need more information from you to reproduce the bug. Can you provide the information required here? How do I write a bug report?

I'll move your post to the Discussions board while we await your information.

Thanks,

Kevin

There is no reason that a frame hold applied to a given track item, should be applied to all track items made from that same project item, regardless of whether that project item represents an AE composition.

If that track item were created from a project item representing a simple .mov, one would not expect that applying a frame hold to it would apply to all track items based on that .mov, nor should that frame hold be applied to the project item itself (i.e., visible in the Source monitor).

Helpful!

'the one with the frame hold': Your steps refer to a single clip (instead of the three you replaced, in the video), which is what I found confusing. Thanks for the clarification.

Yes, you're right, the frame hold isn't held, in the resultant Composition. I've re-opened the bug.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro version number: 24.3.0 (This has been a bug since at least 23)
  • Operating system - Windows 11
  • System Info: CPU, GPU, RAM, HD:
    • 5900x

    • RTX 4070 551.61

    • 128 GB

    • NAS

  • Video format: Doesn't matter. mp4, mov, mxf.
  • Workflow details: Simple sequence, one video and one audio track
  • Steps to reproduce - (Very important!)
    1. Add frame hold to clip in timeline.2. Right-click clip and "Replace with AE comp"
  • Expected result - In AE the clip should also be a freeze frame now.
  • Actual result -  Frame hold is ignored. Clip plays back in normal speed.
  • Note: Also consider adding a marker or a symbol to clips with framehold in the timeline

This makes no sense?

I'm not talking about track items in Premiere. I'm talking about the frame hold not carrying over to After effects when creating an AE comp inside of Premiere. Every effect, transformation and speed change carries over to the clip in After effects, but not the frame hold. My issue description is pretty clear about it. Or do you really need a video to show the problem?

Cool, there are now two clips in the timeline; the original media, and a second frame-held clip.

> 2. Right-click clip and "Replace with AE comp"

Right-click which clip, the original or the new frame-held still?

Thanks for acknowledging, but I will just add, that it makes no difference selecting one or multiple clips. In the video I comped 3 clips just for comparison. The same bug will occur when selcting only one clip for the AE comp.
