Scale to Fill Clip-Slip Tool Preview Issue

Hi,

This is about an issue with regards to using the Slip Tool on a clip whereby Scale to Fill is used on a clip that is smaller than the sequence dimensions. In this scenario, a 1920x1080 clip is Scaled to Frame Size of a 3840x2160.

Normally, if you use the Slip Tool on any clip, it will show the in and out points of the video. However, if the clip is Scaled to Frame Size first, Premiere Pro will bug out and scale the preview shots as well, making the Slip Tool more of a guess. It should instead show the In and Out points of the video in preview without the scaling.

I thought it was just my PC issue at first but it seems like its been an issue for a number of years now. Hoping the devs can help out. I am aware that Fit to Frame Size doesn't have this issue however.

Hi @siweic41184328.

Thanks for the bug report and the observations you made. I think I understand the issue. It seems like the tool has problems because it was not updated after Set to/Scale to Frame Size feature was added. Do you have any other information to offer? See, How do I write a bug report?

It sounds like the team needs to take a look at how scaling affects the previews supporting these tools. Right? I hope the team will reply with an update on the state of this tool. Sorry for the frustration.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Sorry for the late reply. As far as I can tell, the bug consistent occurs when you Scale to Frame Size a video clip that's a lower resolution than the Sequence resolution (i.e. 1080p to 4k). So when you try to Slip Tool that clip that is affected, the Comparison View of the clip will scale by that amount making it difficult to determine how much to slip by.

I am not sure what else I need to include about this big but let me know how else I can assist with bug reporting. Perhaps a screen recording.

Hey there, @siweic41184328,

Thanks for the update. I have seen other problems like this. I agree that the Scale to Frame Size function might be at the heart of this bug. I demonstrated this problem to the developers recently. I will make sure that the issue is recorded internally and will continue to advocate for a fix. I apologize on behalf of the team. I am sorry I have to ask for your patience on this one.

Take Care,
Kevin

Hello, @siweic41184328!

Have you installed 24.6 yet? I just did a quick test and the bug appears to be fixed. Can you check on your system? I hope the news is good. Let the community know. It would be cool to close this bug.

Cheers,

Kevin.
