Search Function in Project Panel doesn't allow full wording before starting search

In the project panel, when one starts to enter characters for a search string, and as it progressively finds some assets, if one clicks on one or more of them (to show in source monitor) but then wants to extend the search by removing or adding charcters in the search bar, the cursor often prematurely jumps out of the search bar after one or two new characters are entered and focus goes into the list of found assets or another panel altogether.  This is distracting to the workflow when the extended search string has not been completed, since one has to reposition the cursor in the search bar to continue adding (or backspacing) characters, or click the "x" in that bar to delete the entire string and start over.  If others agree, then unless there's an existing workaround, I wonder if a feature/discrepancy request to halt searching in this case and don't start the extended search until enter the Enter key is pressed or a newly added magnifying glass icon in that bar is clicked (not the one that creates a new search bin or the unclickable graphic) would be valuable? It would to me.

Hi @BArticol

Thank you for reporting a problem. We need a few more details to help like the exact Premiere Pro version you are on and hardware information. Please see How to Report a Problem

Just to clarify, you are seeing the search bar focus changing mid-search to another panel or asset, right? Do you have a screenrecording you could share that shows this behavior?

Are you using any external displays?

Sorry for the frustration,

Dani

Thank you for following up.  I am on version 25.6.2 (build 1). GPU is nVidia GeForce RTX 3080 with 10240 MB memory.  CPU is AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-core with 64 GB RAM. Yes, I am seeing the search bar focus changing mid-search to another panel or asset. See the linked screen capture: in it you'll right after entering one character - an "l" - the search bar cursor jumps out of the text box to the program monitor:  Jumping Search Bar Cursor Effect This was unuusual in that it usually lets me type a few characters and hesitate before it jumps.

Thanks for the information @BArticol. Have you seen this happen if you are only working on a single monitor, or if the Program panel is not on a separate display? Does it ever coincide with specific letters you are typing in the search bar, or jump to any other panels apart from the Program monitor?

Not with any specific characters or sequences of same.  It doesn't matter if I'm using a single or dual monitor. The best way I've found to reproduce the problem (and it's intermittent) is to type a few characters in the project panel search box, then click on any of the found assets to send one to the source monitor, then click back into the search bar and hit backspace 3 or more times to delete 3 or more characters. Suddenly the entire project panel loses focus, but it runs a search with the remaining characters because those characters match parts of metadata for an asset. In the case of the sequence I was working on, I can enter musk ox, then click on a found asset, move the cursor back to the search bar at the right end of that string, hit backspace three times so only the string "mus" is left, and boom. Note that in my project panel, mus will match "musk ox" and "museum" metadata.  Another clue:  I type in "mus" (no double quotes), it finds matches with "museum and "musk", I select one that has "museum" in its name for the source monitor, I go back to the search box and now add a "k" and boom - it finds assets with "musk" but loses focus everywhere. Delete that trailing "k" and focus is not lost - I can extend the search. Yet sometimes that doesn't happen. Weird.
