Source targetting insert/overwrite (, . ) does not work with multiple files, linking multiple files

Dec 04, 2025 Dec 04, 2025

Premiere version: 25.6.3

Macos 26.1

Are the following behaviors correct (video link)?

1. Source targetting multiple files with insert/overwrite commands (. ,) hotkeys does not work with multiple selections.  Inserts of multiple files go into V1/A2 no matter what the source targetting is set to (V2/A2).  Let's say you want to overwrite a whole bunch of b-roll files into V2/A2 and you source target those tracks; everything is still placed in V1/A1 (see video).
2. Link/Unlink multiple files (second part of video).  If you lasso select mutliple clips in the Timeline and unlink them (Command+L), the multiple selections are unlinked together.  However, the process does not work in reverse to relink multiple files at once, so they each have to be lasso selected indiviually to relink them.  A pain when you have to relink multiple files at once (happens a lot with students that don't know what they are doing).

3.  Graphics workspace: Why don't the insert/overwrite commands work for graphics in the captions and graphics workspace?  Only manual targetting works (dragging the graphics into the Timeline), which means that you cannot insert or overwrite multiple files at once.

@karma_koan,

1 - I see the same thing. Workaround is to lock any lower number tracks you do not want.

3 - I don't think I'm understanding. I can select 3 image files in the project panel and insert/overwrite than all at once.

Thanks for that solution.  Hopefully someone at Adobe will look at this and fix it.

< 3 - I don't think I'm understanding.

Insert and Overwrite commands (comma and period hotkeys respectively) don't work from the Caption & Graphics window.  You can select 3 lower thirds from the Graphics window and insert them all at once?

Thanks again.

@karma_koan,

3 - Ah got it. Right, from the Text Panel/Graphics tab (or captions), there's no way to add to the sequence. All the options from the transcript tab are special or responsive to the global shortcuts.
