Subtitles discrepancy after Import corrected subtitles

I got the corrected Premiere Pro transcript from my client - it retains all the original formatting done when I exported it from Premiere Pro. Now I import it back via the Import corrected transcript command and I see a total discrepancy between what I see in the text document and what Premiere Pro shows me:

Снимок экрана 2024-10-10 192949.png

As if Premiere Pro messes up all the original text structure after import.. So I decided to check it and exported the transcript in another project and imported it back immediatelly as a "corrected" version. See this. Even the timecodes differ:

I checked the english transcribation and it's fine, all the timecodes correspond even after you translate the text to a different language via an AI translator. But the chinese language gets all the timecodes messed up even if nothing is done to the text - literally export > import > messed up.

Since I do the translation from\to different languages, it's crucial for me to have this tool working perfectly, because I cannot afford wasting time on correcting the transcripts after import again... Please see to this problem.

Premiere Pro 24.6.1 (2).

Hi @AndrewTheGreat,

Can the team have more info? See, How do I write a bug report?

They need specifics about your system and the format you are editing. I hope they will respond shortly.

FYI, many employees are at the MAX conference, and it may take some time to respond. Sorry!

Thanks,
Kevin

@AndrewTheGreat,

See this thread that also involved issues in importing corrected:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-bugs/import-corrected-transcript-does-not-work/idi-p/148...

I tested the import and it worked for me. We did not discover a cause.

@Kerstin Ebert @Andrew27641742yo7k Did either of you learn anything more than at the end of that thread?

True, nothing. And then there were two. I'm hoping Kerstin has some thoughts that might move this forward.

And is it all non-English or something else?

But then, the problem file worked on my system, so that adds to the oddity.

Yeah, the English subs work fine, at least I didn't have any problems when testing. The chinese and italian got mixed up. The strangest thing is the discrepancy in timecodes before and after import. I cannot understand why this can happen - the file is not changed during import, it's like opening a text file in MS Word and Win Wordpad and get different results

Hi, @Kevin-Monahan

The issue is described above.

Premiere Pro 24.6.1 (build 2)

i7 14700K, RTX 4080 (Nvidia Studio driver 561.09), 64 Gb of RAM, m2 SSDs

The video:

Снимок экрана 2024-10-15 134619.png

The subsampling is 4:2:0. You can download and test it from here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KvP06kC3ZDi-Ojos0d1FkJ07NFyaP_PK/view?usp=drive_link

Workflow details: I get a video which I transcribe, interprete preserving the timecodes, keeping the text structure and the amount of lines in each paragraph, then send the exported transcript to my client to check and correct if needed, then get the corrected file back, import it as corrected and work on. With English language translation I had no issue, but am having it now with the chinese.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Import the video, transcribe it in simple mandarin, export the transcription as a txt file

2) Without any changes even, import the txt file via the Import corrected transcripti (txt) command

3) Compare the timecodes in the text file and in Premiere Pro.

I've just checked it in Premiere Pro version 25 and the issue still preserves.

@AndrewTheGreat,

Thanks for the info and file. I am still on 24.6.1 and tested only on that. I do not have time this morning, but will also test on the Beta.

I added the Chinese language pack and transcribed as simplified Mandarin. I dragged to the new icon, and exported transcript as .txt, and then switched to Source Monitor view and imported that file as corrected. There are differences.

There are differences in every beginning and ending timecode, varying from a single frame to up to 4 seconds. (Quick observation; there may be a longer difference in there somewhere.)

I also see an added character or characters (word, words?) at the beginning or end of most segments.

@Kerstin Ebert @alexander-riss Something is amiss!

Edit: I forgot to note - in the other thread, the export .txt/reimport did NOT show differences.

Hi,

I can also reproduce the issue with the Japenese file and the re-import of the txt file shows indeed a difference in the timecodes. My first impression is that some characters from the end of segment 1 are moved to the beginning of segment 2, this is why the timecode changes. I'll investigate this further with the team and get back to you once there is an update.

Thanks,

Kerstin
