Text panel error; Reloading and restarting ineffective

I've been using the new text panel to transcribe some source clips and it was stuck on one clip, so I left that sequence to work on another one while it did its thing. I reopened the text panel to this error message.

I restarted the text panel, then restarted Premiere, then restarted the computer, none of which worked. I opened the project on another system using the Productions project and the error persisted on their system as well. All of my previously transcribed clips were also affected and now the text panel doesn't work at all in this project. I brought the affected clip into a new project outside of the Production and the text panel recognised it, but trying to retranscribe it ends with the same error. There's nothing weird or corrupt about the clip itself. It plays and interacts with the NLE as normal. At an hour and 46 minutes long, it's on the longer side, but we have clips as long in the original project that Premiere had no problems with. It's a simple Q&A interview with one interviewer and one subject, so there's no action or multiple speakers to muddle the AI.

I haven't been able to replicate the issue with other clips, so I'm assuming it's a fluke, but I would love to know how to fix it so I don't have to trash an entire project that editors are working out of and relying on the script sync in the text panel.

Jeena,  your sceenshot is not of the error. That would be helpful to see.

@maadtoro @MiasSteenberg,

The reset workspace did not work for another user, but using replace for the clip did:

So that didn't actually work for me either, but I tried a lot of different things hoping something would stick and I ended up forcing the offending clip offline and then using "replace footage" in the Project panel, replacing it with itself.  That one actually did end up fixing my issue.

Hey, I just experienced the same error. This worked for me:
On the top tool bar of Premiere, go to Window/Workspaces and click "Reset to saved layout".
I hope it works!

I migrated my current project over to 24.1 today (from 23.6.2 which was crashing constantly yesterday). Worked for roughly 12 hours today in the latest Premiere without a crash or error in the Text panel while using the same M2 Max MacBook Pro. Cautiously optimistic and relieved right now.

Has Release 24.1.0 fixed this for everyone?

@mattchristensen @Stan Jones  Since moving over to 24.1, I haven't ran into the error message using Text panel and haven't had a crash. Thank you for letting me know that this issue was fixed with the latest version, and that my new expensive Macbook wasn't the culprit.

Hello, have recently begun using the transcribe/captionn features for the first time. Now, the text panel keeps suddenly displaying errors. Rebooting Premiere Pro resolves the issue, but it often reoccurs within a few minutes after relaunch. Can anyone help? Attached is a screenshot of the "crashed" text panel. Thank you.

My Premiere crashes within 60 seconds while editing a small Reel. Just added captions and now I open it, edit one or two pieces and it crashes again. I use a new M3 Pro with Sonoma 14.2.1. and the 2024 version of Premiere Pro 🤷🏻‍:male_sign:

Sorry, to hear about your issue, though it does sound a bit different than mine. Premiere Pro itself doesn't crash or lag at all, its the text panel itself that displays this error and thus renders itself unusable. So i think this is a Premiere Pro issue, not a computing issue. I'm on a M3 max Macbook Pro, editing 1080 footage.

Just wanted to add a problem which is, as far as I think, also related to transcribe/caption features. Yesterday I edited a 4k Vid for YouTube, without captions and it worked fine. So my guess is, that there might be a bug with the transkript. ✌🏻

Jenna,

There were multiple text panel errors, but all should be fixed in 24.1.0.  See this thread:
