Hello, I have run into a very sudden problem where I am unable to open ANY of my Premiere projects. I am able to create a new project but when I try to open one of my existing ones I get the message "an unknown error occurred opening project".

Also, none of my projects are shown as recently opened anywhere within Premiere even though I worked on some of them as recently as a couple of days ago.

A few things I have tried:

- Opening the project within Premiere, where I get this error message

- Opening the project from my Finder, where nothing happens when I try to open the project file either through double clicking or right-clicking and selecting "opeN"
- Creating a new project and importing the old project there. This didn't work with most of my projects. It did work with some autosaves of projects however none of the media is linked for some reason and when I try to relink it I consistently get a File Import Failure message saying "the importer reported a generic error"

- Updating to the latest version of Premiere. Same issues persist

- Reinstalling Premiere. Same issues persist

- Deleting entire media cache. Same issues persist

Has anyone else encountered this bizarre problem??? I have no idea what to do and losing ALL of these projects would be devastating for me as I need to be able to continue working on them!

I am working on a 16-inch 2023 Macbook Pro with these specs:

Chip: Apple M3 Max

Model Identifier: Mac15,9

Memory: 48gb

Total Number of Cores: 16 (12 performance and 4 efficiency)

OS: Sonoma 14.1

Premiere Version: 24.4.1 (Apple silicon/Intel)

What about your system configuration has changed, since you were last able to open these projects?

It sounds like you can successfully create new projects; correct?

Can we have a .prproj file that no longer opens? Also good: A piece of media that used to work fine, but now generates generic errors.

Thank you so much for your quick response!

Like the genius I am I didn't think to try to open some of the files I was working with and unable to link, in other applications. They were not able to open so I restarted my computer and I am no longer having issues, everything is resolved.

So it turns out it was an issue with my computer, not Premiere. Really sorry to have wasted your time with this and thanks again for offering help so quickly

Apology cheerfully declined; the behavior you saw was scary! 🙂 Glad you got it working.
