Hey everyone, upgraded my Sony FX3 last night which now shoots 4K DCI at true 24 fps.
Importing my footage today and, when not playing the footage (paused, or scrubbing) is squashed/scrambled.
Now, when actually playing the he Preview or Sequence windows, the footage looks fine. It's just when/not playing. The footage also looks fine playing outside of Premiere, with VLC.
Just as well, if I try creating basic Low Res proxies using Premiere's default "ProRes Low Resolution Proxy" setting, the footage is completely squashed/scrambled, even when I play the clips outside of Premiere.
Interpret footage settings are all good, following Square 1.0 pixel aspect that is in the file.
What's the fix for this? Thank you in advance for any guidance!
Edit:
- Experimenting with exporting anything from the timeline, it's also squashed/scrambled.
- I'm on an Intel mac, a colleague of mine opened the same footage in Premiere on an M2 Apple chip, and it's working as expected. So this is an Intel Mac issue?
I held out until I got a new mac with an M2 Ultra processor, opened the prjoect and guess what... same issue! I can't remember exactly what I did to fix the issue, but I think I copied the edits in the timeline, started a new project/sequence, and pasted everything in and it was working. If I remember correctly, basically a new project with the assets re-imported in to that project did the trick. Kind of curious if this would have worked on my older mac as well (although I do think I tried this,

Which version of macOS are you running? And which version of Premiere Pro?
What happens if you change the magnification from Fit to 100%, 50% or 25%?
Also, try making sure that the Playback Resolution and the Paused Resolution match.

Thanks for the reply...
Setting the magnification to 100%, 50% & 25% give me the same result.
Changing the Playback Resolution gives me the same result, and even matching the Paused Resolution and Playback resolution as requested does the same thing.
Crazier still, I ran a single clip through every single default ProRes setting in Media Encoder (totally outside of Premiere), as well as some different H264 settings, the image renders like this in each rendered result.
Again, pushing play on the footage in Premiere plays the clip fine... and opening these clips in VLC play fine... it's just scrubbing, pausing and then rendering that is giving me this result, which is making editing impossible. Thank you for any more suggestions!

I have the excatly same issue of my m1 max macbook pro 16", after I upgrade my sony a7siii and shooting in dci 4k footages, not only in 24fps but 23.97fps also have same issue. Read the comments and try start a new project and copy the edit timeline but get no luck, still has that squashed/scrambled problems. This kind of issue only affect on dci 4k footages, if not shoot in dci 4k, it worked fine, so I guess this is the premiere supporting issue with fx3 / a7siii dci 4k on some mac system.
Can anyone help me as well? The footages work totally fine on other editing software like danvicii reslove or final cut pro, so this is a problem with premiere.
Look forwards someone to help me. Thanks.

Hey there, so I never found a real solution to this. I tried many things like re-installing Premiere, etc. But I think the main thing that may have fixed things for me was to remove all preference files, media caches, and anything left over by Premiere after uninstalling. Once I did a full blown clear of these things, I re-installed and ended up being back in business. Hope this helps!

If anyone has encountered same issue, just check if there has installed the really evil and bad catalyst browse plugin which might make your DCI 4K footages not working normally.
thanks again to response of my issue, cheers.

Wow! Yes! I had Sony's Catalyst plugin installed as well. After uninstalling it (and clearing all my preferences files) I was back to normal. This is the way!
