edit: I see the following issues now that I made this post, due to "Related conversations" posts on the side:
https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/kb/known-issues.html
I will roll back to the prior update and tell CC Desktop to stop auto updating until the beta comes out.
Original message: I have a Windows 10 PC. AMD Kaveri A10-7850K 4GHz with 16GB RAM and a 500GB Samsung EVO SSD. I didn't do any OS or graphics driver updates. I haven't even rebooted since the last time I used Premiere Pro CC yesterday. This morning Creative Cloud Desktop updates 8 applications while I was away, including Premiere Pro. It did this on it's own. I didn't initiate this update. Now I try to add a Legacy Title with a simple sentence of text, and I get this error when I try to add that title into the timeline:
A low-level exception occurred in: Adobe Player (Player 6)
This freezes my work in the program. So now I have to fix this, or work around this, to make a program I've been using for years, work normally.
I have done absolutely nothing to my PC to make this happen. I was adding titles to my last project. Now I can't do something as simple as that.
Not only that, but I open up ANY project I worked before, I am greeted with this error from the first moment any prior project loads up.
So I do some Google searching. I see that I now have to change:
File, Project Settings, General, Video Rendering and Playback, Renderer: "Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (OpenCL)" to "Mercury Playback Engine Software Only."
Now things seem to work normally, except the preview window is more pixelated, and runs slower. Sometimes at 1 FPS. This is a workaround - a terrible one at that - and it's all I can find on this issue anywhere.
This isn't a hardware problem. This is a software problem with a program I've been using for years, and now suddenly developed this syndrome. I've rebooted my PC as a troubleshooting option and there's been no change. I don't have any Windows Updates at this time, and I'm loath to update the AMD Catalyst drivers until I know more.
Please help. I should be able to use this program normally, without having to use a janky workaround that makes performance suffer, and apply it to all future projects, or any prior project. Thank you.

Apologies that it took some time, but Premiere Pro 14.2 has just shipped and contains the fix for Legacy Titles with GPU Renderer.
What's new and fixed in PPro 14.2:

I'm having a similar issue now with my titles, and the same error message. The titles won't imbed in the sequence at all.

I just discovered the exact same thing. I'm a teacher and am trying to get a lesson out by Monday for my HS students.
I'm new to Premiere...how do you roll back the updates?
Thanks in advance.

But so far I could not solve the issue

Imo you best roll back to 14.0.4.

I agree. This is a easier way

Just wanted to confirm that I was having the same issue and rolling back to version 14.0.4. resolved my problem.

I am having same issue, to fix this problem, we can wait Adobe to release a newer version or turn off GPU acceleration. In fact, it is time to move to the new title tool in PR, it's a better way but need some time to get used to it.

What new title tool. I've encountered the same issue, but I havnt seen any kind of new title tool in inside of Premiere.

Using Essential Graphics instead of Legacy title.

Oh ok. If we want simple static title screens and not so much Essential Graphics which are mostly motion graphics(After Effects for example) then we dont necessarily need a library of motion graphics to choose from.

I think the issue will be fixed soon, but before that i still want the CUDA settting on, and Essential Graphics is good enough, i've been using lagacy title for the past years and now it's time to move on.

I hate the new Title Tool. It never works quite right for me.

Hey there, Tyler,
I feel for you. As an editor, before I came to Adobe, I would run into troubles like this sometimes and it's indeed frustrating.
I would say that you should file bugs and feature requests for the Essential Graphics panel and its tools. In the meantime, this bug has been fixed and will be available in an upcoming version.
Regards,
Kevin

It's been 2 weeks since last update, when do you think a new update will be available?

I too, am now seeing this issue out of the blue.

Have had this issue for a awhile. It was NOT fixed in the latest patch. I'm currently building titles in photoshop and avoiding the "Legacy Title Tool" at all cost until this bug is fixed.

Might want to get familiar with Ess. Graphics.
Legacy titles are going to disappear sooner or later.
Its called legacy for a reason.

I've been having this same issue as well. I am a content creator by trade and this is super annoying. I've searched everywhere on the internet and I could not find anything on this issue. Looks like the best bet might be to revert back to an older version until Adobe releases a software patch that fixes the issue.

This is wild. I'm having the same problem right now too. How do you revert back to an older version?

I'm reverting back right now to see if it fixes it. In Creative Cloud Desktop, click the three dots by Premiere Pro, then select "Other Versions". I'm trying 14.04 now. I've been having the issue with 14.1.

Yep, rolling back to 14.04 fixed it.

Thank you directorjones for reporting how to roll back to 14.0.4. It solved this problem for me, too.

I used this workaround and while not perfect, it is better than before:
https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/kb/known-issues.html
Legacy Title: To workaround this issue, make sure you use software rendering in File > Project Settings > General.

thanks for this...I am now able to continue working without the frustration.
