Audio Compressed on Import to Premiere

Community Beginner ,

I've scoured the internet for an answer to this issue, and can't seem to fix the problem.

When I import a song that I'm using for a project into Premiere, it is automatically compressed and sounds horrible. It sounds fine in the source file and super compressed in Premiere. I've used two different files. The first one is 192 kpbs and the second is 320kpbs. Both are compressed upon import. My sequence settings are set at 48000 hz, so neither file should be compressed as far as I know.

Files attached are media details in Premiere vs file details in my file explorer (x2 for each song) and my sequence settings.

Any ideas?

Make sure Default Input in the Audio Hardware in the Preferences is set to No Input.

ETA: It also did this to the actual audio from the wedding ceremony, so it's not just the songs. The officiant's audio sounds horrible.

I tried that, then imported again and it's still compressing.

When you see "Compressed" in the Media Properties window, it doesn’t mean Premiere Pro is compressing your audio. It’s just referring to the type of audio codec your file uses. For example, MP3 is a compressed format, while WAV (Waveform Audio) is uncompressed.

If your audio sounds different in Premiere Pro, try sharing a short sample or explaining the specific differences you’re hearing. That’ll make it easier to figure out what’s going on.
