If the footage is variable framerate convert to constant framerate with Handbrake before bringing into Premiere.

Convert your Source Video, not your edited video. I recommend giving the source video a new name in Handbrake. Then perform a Replace File operation in Pr to replace the original source footage with new, converted footage. If the video length is the same, it shouldn't affect your edits at all.

Try exporting to CineForm or ProRes as a test.

If that works, then try using Pr or the Media Encoder to convert the test file to H.264.

What model camera, please?

I don't really understand the problem. I need more details about exactly what is going wrong and when it's going wrong.

  • Your source footage is from a camera, correct? What make and model of camera?
  • Does Pr import the raw camera footage properly or did you convert the camera footage using Handbrake before editing it in Pr?
  • You say everything works fine in Pr and you only get problems when you Export Media to H.264. What software are you using to play back the exported video?
  • What happens if you export to ProRes 422 from Pr? Does the ProRes file play back properly using the same playback software that you used to play back the H.264 export?

- I used handbrake before editing it in PR (video is fine up until I convert to H264)

- Camera footage

-I use Quicktime to play the exported video (I have a MAC)

-I haven't tried PoRes should I try?

Thank you

Yes. Try ProRes 422 and try playing the exported ProRes file in Quicktime Player.

You should also take your existing H264 exported file and try playing it back in VLC.

Here's a link to the excellent and free VLC media player: VLC

Like Ann said, you may need to convert in Handbrake. Screen recorded footage often has characteristics that Premiere does not work well with. Test with one file and see if running it through Handbrake helps.

Many users are having issues with VFR. If the file is variable frame rate, use Hand brake to convert to constant frame rate:
