Hey team,
All of a sudden audio tracks across my timeline are completely blown out, this is happening across many projects I open which have never had an issue in the past. It isnt every audio tracks and seems to be sporratic, and the source file is completely fine. Visually the waveform looks like to volume has been cranked to max and sounds like it aswell. I have tried cleaning the cache, deleting the entire suite and using the Adobe cloud cleaner tool. I have tried exporting to audition, rolling back premiere to several updates ago, exporting to see if it would still be present, re exporting the source file in media encoder and still can't figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

You mentioned Premiere, Audition, and Media Encoder. Which application do you have a question about? We will move your post to the appropriate forum for you.

Hi Jane. Premiere is the main culprit

Hi, I have exactly the same problem in Premiere. I have tried:
- updating the app
- reconnecting the problem footage to a different instance of it on a different drive
- Resetting preferences and clearing cache
- Transcoding the offending footage to an entirely new codec, and relinking the problem footage to the new transcoded material. (this took the offending footage from an .mts to a pro res QT), audio still distorting horrendously
This issue only effects one type of footage in my timeline, the audio from this footage plays exactly as you'd expect it to in VLC, Adobe After effects.
This project was running fine for about 4 months, and problems have only begun today (although it's a 4 month long project it's not especially chunky)
Note my source footage and timeline is all at 48khz

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

From the waveform, that file is clipping, as it was perhaps recorded too high. What is the sound like elsewhere from the same clip?

Yeah looks and sounds like that but doesn't change when you reduce the volume. Plays fine in VLC

Yeah exactly. I turn the volume down and it just reduces the volume but the
same static/white noise. Sounds fine in VLC

Christopher, you're testing screenshot looks like my waveforms (pushed through the roof out of the blue) - it's an issue with .MTS files. An adobe staff member has identified it as such in this post:
MTS format audio is just loud static - Adobe Product Community - 15135957
Apparently rolling back to v 25.2 is the solution which I'm trying now.

I've tried rolling back as far as I can go and still didn't fix it

Roll back also not working for me, I have managed a work around tho:
- rolled back pp to 25.2
- rolled back media encoder to 24.6.5
- Transcoded the .MTS files to Pro Res and then relinked in premiere 25.2
(newer versions of AME were exporting my Pro Res transcodes with the crazy white noise embedded)

Hi Chris & luke_mcpake,
Sorry about the poor experience. We're still working on the audio noise issue with MTS media in v25.3 and will provide updates as we have more information. Pr v25.2 should not require transcoding to ProRes. Could you please confirm if you are experiencing the audio noise in v25.2 as well?
Thanks,
Sumeet

Hi Sumeet,
I checked this morning that I am on version 25.2, imported .mts files and the audio is playing without noise.
However, the waveform is not displaying correctly - even though the audio peaks are around -12db in the meter, the waveform is showing as completely slammed.
But, on zooming in on the timeline, at a certain point the waveform starts displaying as you would expect (see below).
(note that the waveform displays incorrectly in the source window also)

Thanks for bringing it to our notice. We will get that checked by our team.

Hi Sumeet,
I can confirm what @luke_mcpake has said. The audio sounds fine now but the waveform is completely blown out
