I think I brought this up in the now locked export rant thread, but forgot about it and now working with a company that uses "." in their output names extensively again so I ran into it again today.
Steps:
1. Name sequence something like " 1.5 - Intro to Basket Weaving"
2. File - > Export
3. Click on file destination to set folder
4. File name is truncated to "1.mp4"
5. Have to manually cancel and try again.
Workaround: Copy file name into clipboard before selecting folder, paste into name slot after selecting folder.
Seems like it would be a farily easy bug to fix but has been happening to me all year.

I had emailed an @Udo Pawlik about it earilier this year and his description of the bug like this:
It appears the file name gets truncated at the last period (.) in a sequence name.
If you have a sequence and place a period anywhere
‘PlaceAPeriodAnywhere.InTheSequenceName’ truncates to ‘PlaceAPeriodAnywhere.mp4’
‘Place.APeriodAnywhereIn.TheSequenceName’ truncates to ‘Place.APeriodAnywhereIn.mp4’
