BURN IN CAPTIONS WON'T TURN OFF

I just exported a Pro Res File with captions turned off.

It worked.

I then Exported it with captions burnt in.

It worked.

I then tries exporting Captions with a Sidecar.

It burnt the captions in as well as exporting the sidecar.

Oh well, I thought, can't trust Adobe to test anything before they release it.

BUT

I now need to export without captions.

I have turned captions off.

Captions are still being burnt in.

If anyone can please quickly tell me a workaround so I don't lose another client I would be extremely thankful!

Obviously the workaround is to duplicate the sequence and delete the captions!

@tristansummers,

It would help to know which version of PR you are using.

There was a bug like this several version back, that I could not replicate.

Then I thought I had replicated it, but it turned out that the captions were NOT burned in, I was playing back in VLC player and it was automatically using a previous sidecar export.

If reimporting the file to PR confirms actual burned-in subtitles when you were exporting with sidecar, let us know your PR version. Also, are you exporting directly from PR? Or queing to AME?

l always keep my workstation fully up to date but not beta.

Direct from Premiere. yes re-importing proves they are burnt in, but also the fact that there are both the burn in and the .srt rendered versions displayed at the same time is a giveaway.

Cache based.

Again

Cache is a seperate nvme M2 slots all on the motherboard (OS/STORAGE/CACHE)

Render to the cache drive

Went to After Effects and deleted Cache from within preferences dialog and now it exports.

So are the cache renders not including a flag / metadata as to whether CC are burnt in?

Exporting to Pro Res HQ not using Previews

Any word from Adobe about how to manage/prevent these cache ghosts?

Is it something to do with nvme ssd block management?

Any thoughts on what triggers them?

I have spoent hours trying to fix projects when the issue is that AE/PREM is just not actually displaying the current version of the frame

This bug still persists in CC2024, ever since they introduced the new Export tab feature.  Turning off Captions seems to have no effect, whether you're exporting to Quicktime, mp4, etc.  FYI, you can turn them off in your timeline by clicking the eyeball icon next to the track name before exporting.  But it's just so dumb that we've been through multiple updates at this point and Adobe hasn't fixed this yet...

@videomc74

That is frustrating. I ran my tests in PR2024, and I am unable to replicate this problem.

Thanks for reporting that disabling the caption track is a workaround for you.

My tests looked only at H.264 export directly from PR (not using Media Encoder) with Subtitle format captions only. Other variations are other exports (quicktime in particular) or other caption formats. I renamed the export file for each export.

I believe that all it takes to see the problem is for the captions to show in the Export Preview window when they shouldn't. The captions should not show in the preview window if captions are toggled off in the Export settings, set to sidecar, or disabled in the Caption Track header.

For these tests, I confirmed that the preview window did or did not show captions, and exported a file. I imported it to PR, and looked at the file in the Source Monitor and created a sequence from the clip and looked at it there.

In order, I exported 1) captions turned off in export settings, 2) sidecar, 3) burned in, 4) repeat of captions turned off in export settings, 5) repeat of sidecar, and 6) captions disabled in captions track.

If you take those steps, do you always get captions burned in with sidecar or toggled off or only sometimes?

@tristansummers,

Are you still seeing this problem?

Sorry I did not respond to your last posts. So you saw the problem only when using AE dynamic link?

I don't have time to troubleshoot for you. I just have to turn the track off. be good to raise the maintenance prority of UI switches that do not do their job though
