Can I Import a Multicam Clip via XML into Premiere Pro?

I'm trying to import a multicam clip into Adobe Premiere Pro using an XML file. However, when I do this, Premiere Pro treats the multicam clip as a regular sequence rather than recognizing it as a multicam setup.

Is it possible to import a proper multicam sequence using XML? Or is this a limitation of the FCP XML format?

Any insights or workarounds would be greatly appreciated!

The ancient and rather simplistic XML format cannot handle multiple tracks ... sometimes people have gotten two through, but I've never heard of anyone getting more through.

Personally, in my testing, I've not managed two tracks ever.

I'm wondering if @Warren Heaton or @Richard M Knight or someone has any suggestions ...

Thanks for the insights! That clarifies a bit — I had a feeling it might be a limitation of the FCP XML format itself. I'm essentially trying to recreate a proper multicam sequence with camera angle switching functionality (like what you'd get when creating multicam manually in Premiere).

If that's not possible through FCP XML alone, would there be any other approach or method to Import or create multicam sequence without manually creating it?

Would love to hear if Warren or Richard have any input on possible workarounds.

Which application is exporting the XML? If it's Premiere Pro, could you clarify why you need to export an XML?

If you're exporting the XML from another NLE, it's important to note that each editing application handles multicam workflows differently. These differences often don't translate well through XML.

If your multicam sequence is importing as a standard sequence with individual clips, you can still work with it. Try loading the sequence into the Source Monitor, right-click, and choose Multi-Camera > Enable. This should restore multicam editing functionality.

I'm actually generating the XML manually (not from another NLE), because I'm trying to programmatically create a multicam sequence using FCP XML and import it into Premiere Pro.

However, when I import this XML, Premiere treats the multicam sequence as a regular sequence, not a multicam clip. I’m trying to figure out if it’s even possible to create a true multicam clip via XML, or if this is a limitation of the XML format.

According to Adobe's FCP Translation Results, multicam sequences are not supported in FCP XML export.

You might have more success programmatically creating Premiere' Pro's own project XML, where multicam is supported, but the XML structure is much more complex.
