Hi there,
There's been some major changes to the way captions have been handled since 2018, so it may be that the older captions track won't translate to the new version.

You say though that it's "been through all the upgrades of PP" so does that mean the project has been updated to newer versions? If so what's the last version it was opened in before today, and was today when you updated your Premiere version? Please give as many details as possible.

Thanks for the anwswe. I´ll try to answer as short as possible.

This was my first project and I did some (a lot of) mistakes when organized the project; I created a folder that was far to big (850 GB) and placed on a regular external hard drive. Last summer (2024) I was adviced to transfer the project to an external SSD-disc and decreased the size of the project to about 190 GB (so my Mac could handle it). It worked well but when I opened the project yesterday I found out that all the subtitles was gone. There isnt even any tracks for subtitles. I tried to open old versions on the "old non SSD-harddrive" but the subtitles and the tracks was gone in them also!

The strange thing is that I did also a new project (on the SSD) where I merged this project with another project, and in this merged project the subtitles are still there! I´ve copied the subtitles into my original project and it works ok , but as I´ve edited away some clips I have to do new subtitles for half of the project (puh). It´s interviews in Norwegian so the autosubtitles doesnt work that well, I´m afraid.

I wish I could find some auto-saved subtitles, is that possible?

@jans76253362,

The captions are saved in the project file; if there is a caption track created in a sequence, they do not just delete themselves. I wonder if they are hidden?

In the Timeline, top left of the header area, click on the CC icon. If there is no caption track, nothing happens. (It is greyed out.) If there is a caption track, pick "Show all caption tracks."
