Color Replace effect?

Hi there,
We're sorry to hear about this. Let us know the version of Premiere Pro that you are using. Have you tried creating a new project to check if you are able to add Change to Color effect to a clip in this new project? In case the effect is missing from the Effects panel, try reinstalling the app & then check if it's working properly.
Thanks,
Sumeet

I think that was removed from the latest version.
Do you have the CC App set to automatically update?

Hi, yup I've updated the app already. Apparently, the first commenter was
right that it was inside the obsolete folder but only the intel version can
view it. I had to open the intel version from the CC app since every time I
click on the premiere pro app, it automatically opens using the apple m1
version. Just a bit of a hassle since I have to go through the CC app just
to use the intel version but as long as I can use it I guess. The mac
version w the obsolete folder doesnt have the change to color one btw. Hope
this helps! Thanks for the replies, cheers.

Sorry about that LLO,
You can create a secondary color correction directly in the Lumetri Color panel. Check the "Color Wheels and Match" controls, then inspect the HSL Secondary Controls. Here you can pick a color to control, and can change that color in the color wheels themselves.
Feel free to return with any questions.
Thanks,
Kevin

I do not think Lumteri's HSL Secondary controls are a very good replacement for the "Change to Color" tool. It takes a lot of tweaking to change a color now, whereas with the "Change to Color" tool I could make simple color alterations almost instantly. Also, sometimes I have clients that need simple a color changed in an animation or a graphic and the color needs to be a specific brand color associated with a color code. I cannot do this with Lumetri. I really wish Adobe would bring that specific effect back into the mix. I really miss it on my 16" M1 Macbook Pro.

Hi Kevin,
Really need the Change to Colour effect, it is used in thousands of our projects. It means our work is being returned by clients declaring colour errors.
The effect is not in the obsolete folder on M1 Premiere (March 2022 version)
Help!
thanks - Pete

Have you tried color replace effect as Ann suggests?

Replace Color works in most cases but it is not as sophisticated.
The problem is going through hundreds of edits were this has been applied to match other graphic elements in the edit timelines. Particularly when there are colour shifts in artwork coming from Illustrator.
A step backwards

Understood. Going from the HSL options to "similarity" ... definitely less control.

Hey there, I know it has been discussed but I can't seem to find it in the obsolete section, is this maybe due to having the beta version downloaded or has it been removed completely from Premier Pro completely?

If you're on an M1 Mac, then it's been removed ... because the 'obsolete' was all old-code effects that were not going to be updated. And therefore not usable on the new Mac CPUs.
The folder should be there on a PC ... Effects panel, Video Effects, Obsolete ...

Can Adobe add this effect back in an update? Premiere is now missing one very large use case with color correction which is to directly swap out hex values from one to another. This is particularly important when adhering to branding standards. I can't do this with Lumetri color today. Please, I need this effect back. I am on M1 Mac and can't access this in obsolete.

Have you tried the Color Replace effect in the Image Control section of the Effects? That does allow use of both a color picker and the color seletion dialog box.

Hi there, just wondering if the Change to Color effect is going to be reinstated? As many have pointed out here it was a very useful, quick tool. And in the future, can Adobe reach out to subscribers before removing effects for no reason??

Probably wont be reinstates.
Removed effects are first place in the Obeselete folder, so you know one day they will be gone.
Color Replace might do the trick.

As Ann noted, "Change to" has been in the Obsolete folder for several years. That hasn't been a serious clue to you that it was going away? Really?
And reatlistically,. that was an older math effect, quite ancient in code really. Some colorists I know in testing it said bluntly ... avoid that effect period. Premiere has similar in function effects, newer ones, all with better color math, so yea, Change-to is gone. I'm suprised they kept it around this long.
But with the 2022 release, they completely rebuilt the entire underlying color system ... math basis, everything. It used to be a totally Rec.709 app, now it's "color space agnostic" as I call it. So the underlying system those Obsolete effects were built for isn't there anymore anyway.
Color Replace is one, the effect the devs prefer more for this function is the HSL Secondaries tab of Lumetri, and of course there's effects to do this in Ae. So you have several choices. All which have better color math for your image.
Color is my "thing" really ... including I'm a contributuing author for a pro colorist's teaching website. I have never found the Change-to ... satisfying. I could 'break' media too easily when using it. Introduce artifacts & such, so I concurred with my even more experienced colorists friends.
