Hi,
I am working on the german version of the app
24.0.3 Build
MacOs 14
Apple M1 max
Well first, congrats for the speed.
Its the first time this app feels like an editing app. I can tell if I engage with the app that its good.
Before the last releases I was struggeling with the app a lot. And I do this since 1993.
But sometime simple tasks seems to crash the app.
This time its the scene detection.
I have a show that is 90 minutes and I need to know where the edits are. (live show)
So I imported the material and puit it in the timeline .
Video was MPEG-4 AAC, H.264 codec
And the sequence interpreted it with 24,93 (which i dont understand)
Then after trying to scene detect, the app begann to crash.
I shortend the clips
Crash
In my desparation I converted the clip in proress HQ
With the new codec and 20 slices of material I got through the Edit.
So I hof this helps.
I sended reports but I am not sure if they are connected to this thread.
cheers
Peter

If the fps is listed as 24.93, an odd number for certain, that is perhaps a VFR ... variable framerate clip. Which at times doesn't work well in an NLE. If you drag/drop that clip onto the MediaInfo icon (freeware utility) on you desktop, it can show the file metadata. Including whether it's VFR or CFR.
And if it is actually VFR, to get properly converted to CFR, you need to use something like Handbrake or ShutterEncoder, both ffmpeg UIs, to do the task. Adobe's MediaEncoder doesn't actually convert VFR to CFR when it transcodes media, sadly.

Hey Neil,
it also crashed with the converted video to proress. It took me 10 Edits to add to get the detection done.
Question:
Is this the way it should work, is it designed that way?
Which would mean that we cant scene detect something that is longer than 15 minutes.
Why?
Yes it can take time and I dont care if it interuppts the process, but at least it should give us the progress, shouldn´t it?
If I would be able to save and restart from another position this would help a lot.
I am sure that while testing this feature in older releseases I succeeded in getting the edits.
So maybe the developer team sghould take some time to check this feature again.
cheers
Peter

No, it shouldn't be that much of a mess. I do know that some users found that making manual cuts of a sequence into say 15 minute or so blocks, then doing scene detect, seemed to go smoother.
But still ... I've done up to a 34 minute sequence without trouble. So ... huh, that's ... not good. Wish I could give better help!

Sometimes @Bruce Bullis is helpful to get things to and from the dev team.

Peter, can you provide a project with media, as well as step-by-step instructions which reliably result in a crash?
