Dual mono only allowing one channel in timeline

Hello!

I've been Googling for hours and tried so many different things for this, but am at a complete loss!

I have an interview recorded as dual mono - 2 lav mics.

I can see that both channels were recorded (pic of waveform in source monitor attached), but when I bring into timeline it only takes from Channel one (pic of timeline attached). This means Person 2 can only be heard from Person 1's lav mic.

I can also see in my Modify>Audio Channels window that both Clip 1 & 2 are only going into Channel 1 - which is probably the issue here, but I can't see any way to change that (pic of window attached).

I have tried altering my seqeunce settings in every configuration but no joy - they are currently set to mono.

I'm running Premiere Pro 14.6 2020 (unable to update any further as am running an old iMac (2012 currently on Catalina 10.15.7 - again, unable to update any more...!)

If anyone can help on this I will be eternaly grateful...!

Your second image ... to the left side, note it says in the drop-down option box that channel 2 is pulling from channel 1?

Change that so that channel 2 is linked to channel 2.

And I'd go into your preferences/audio and make sure that all default options for how to channelize audio on import show "from file".

I can't change which channel it's pulling from annoyingly. I mentioned it in my original post. It's not a drop-down box, and there doens;t seem to be any option or way to change it, so frustrating!

Actually you can't change anyone existing sequence. You would need to create a new sequence as in Ctrl-N, then select the number of channels and track types BEFORE hitting enter to create the sequence.

It can be complicated, and going to the Premiere help Audio section, or looking up @PaulMurphy YouTube channel "The Premiere Pro" and going through his options.

Setting your default audio preferences to "from file" just sets things up for most of us, most of the time. But changes to Preferences only affects say new sequences created after the change.

I set up a sequence before dragging anything inat the settings it needed - 2 tracs of mono, but didn't work - I've tried this multiple times too..!

I can't see how to set my default Audio preferneces to 'from file' though?

Can you share a screenshot of your Audio Channels window if you select the clip in the timeline and go to Modify > Audio Channels?

The screenshot you've shared doesn't appear to be from the Modify Clip dialog for a clip in the timeline. When modifying a clip that's already in the timeline, options like Preset and Clip Channel Format should be greyed out.

Can you confirm where you selected the clip from—was it the Timeline, Project panel, or Source Monitor?

I now see my confusion about the screenshot you were requesting. Did not know that. Very useful.

I see 2 ways to get to that info: Right-click clip in timeline and pick "Audio Channels." Or select it in timeline and use Clip -> Modify -> Audio Channels. Did not know that either!

I believe that in your screenshot of Modify clip/Audio channels, the Clip 1, Clip 2 always have Channel 1 designated if there is only one channel in THAT clip. And they are correctly going to Media Source channel 1 and 2. When I drag such a clip to the New icon, I get a sequence with each mono clip/channel in its own track.

In that screenshot, the Preset says "custom." That is normally "From file." Did you change those settings?

Select the audio in the project panel, then Window -> Info. Does that say Audio .... 2 Mono?
