Community Beginner ,

using windows 11 and premiere 2023 23.1.0 (build 86)

why is the exported video (first one) way different?  I applied Lumetri color to all the clips...

Color management is something everyone must learn. You didn't match your clip to your sequence to your export settings.

In the Color Workspace Lumetri panel, the tab named Settings is where the color management controls live.

For most users Display Color Management should be on, Mac users also set Extended Dynamic Range on.

Viewing gamma ... some Mac users may prefer gamma 1.96/QuickTime though 2.2 and 2.4 will be better for non-Mac viewing.

Auto detect log and auto tonemapping are interactive and for most users should both be on.

Set the Sequence color space to what you will be exporting to. Then use an export preset that matches the color space of the sequence.

Thanks but it should not be this difficult.

I made new premiere project. Imported a clip. Created sequence from clip (so it should use settings from that clip) Made some edits and did some color corrections . Exported. Looks weird not as it shows in the preview window.

Anyway I called adobe support they are working on my computer getting it to work.

It isn't difficult at all. But with multiple color spaces available the user has to tell the app what you want.

And it looks like you didn't take the 30 seconds to check your CM settings,  to ensure it knew what you wanted to do. And that's all ... about 30 seconds.

I understand you didn't know that this was needed. Total sympathy there, I've been there many times too.

But as you have at least three different ways you could take that clip for exports, how is Premiere supposed to guess correctly?

Any of which, is the correct way for different needs you may well have. There isn't one "correct" way to use that clip.

I would think if i import clip, create sequence from clip, make a few edits and do some color corrections, and then export, it should just work.

the adobe support guy couldn't figure it out after an hour, tomorrow a senior support person is supposed to call.

LOL

I don't know how to make it simpler.

Follow the steps in my first post. It takes 30 seconds. Maybe a minute the first time.

Done. Period.

It's still pretty dumb (whatever the settings are) that the preview window doesn't show the same colouring and lighting than the export...

What are you calling the "preview" window? Source monitor, Program monitor, or the image view in the Export page?

LATEST

@dudeoflife123
Try using a more recent version of Premiere Pro that has Auto Tone Mapping.  If still using 23.x, we can install 24.x and/or 25.x along side 23.x.
Premiere Pro User Guide > Color Correction and Grading > Timeline tone mapping.

@Joshua268007771t0z
It would be great if color management was simple enough that we don't have to think about it, but I'm not sure any phase of video editing or video post production is something to jump into without at least some training or mentoring.

At the very minimum, I'd also read Premiere Pro User Guide > Color Correction and Grading > Display Color Management.
