Extend Script - Change a mogrt image?

I created a mogrt in AE and have been able to create some ES scripts to change text and numeric values but haven't had any luck figuring out how to replace a mogrt image using scripts yet.

Is that possible to use extendscript to replace an image in a mogrt with a different file stored locally/in the project?

No; image replacement didn't exist when the API was created, and there are no plans to improve/expand it, until after PPro moves to UXP extensibility (no dates available).
