Extension without Panel possible?

We have a simple extension which does not require a visible panel. Once the user selects it from the "extensions" menu in Premiere, it should begin executing some javascript/premiere commands.

It works fine, but I'd like to eliminate the panel (which doesn't contain any real UI elements) and prevent the user from having to close the panel afterwards.

Can a 'panel' extension launch without any html elements and without displaying a panel?

No.

Invisible panels are possible, but they're executed at application launch time, and are thereafter unavailable to users.
