Hello Community. I've inherited a Premiere Pro project with most of the media MPEG4 3840x2160. It seems to have worked for the original editor, but the files won't play on my Mac without staggering and pausing. Is this a problem with the specs of my Mac (4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7, 16GB memory)?

Try Preferences > Audio Hardware and set Input to None.
If that doesn't work, delete the Media Cache and Media Cache files:

and then try creating a new project and import the old one into it.
You can also try proxies:

What are the hard drives (how many, what kind, what is on each, what capacity, and how full)?

The project's come in from the States on a single 5TB LaCie Rugged, with around 3.75TB of media, the majority 3840x2160. I wondered if the problem lay with the drive, so I've copied individual files to a 7200rpm desktop drive, but the same issues. I'm hoping the problem doesn't lie with my OS - BIg Sur, or I'm looking at having to drop the job or buy a new Mac - long overdue, I guess, but this job doesn't really justify that.

Media should be located on a fast SSD, not an HDD.
That is likely the issue.

Thanks so much for your help, PB. I've been trying the proxies, with maybe 85% success on playback in Source. As you'll have gathered, it's a very large amount of material, so making proxies for everything is going to be a big job. It's a project the director has built over a year and a half, so I'm coming in very late in the day. I've not encountered these problems with 4K on Avid, which is my usual platform, so your thoughts have been much appreciated.
