Filling the gap while inserting a still image or a clip

I am trying to drag a still image to fill the gap between the clips but it overwrites the second clip.

is there any way to avoid that?

Put the still on V1

Unfortunalely this is risky as I don't see the whole timeline and what is next on V1 and can be accidentaly overwritten. 3 and 4 point of editing takes too much effort just for that. I have to drag the Still at the END of my composition, make it smaller and drag it in the gap. I do not understand why Adobe doesn't have a shortcut just to hold and press a button just to drag and drop easily something to fill the gap. Uservoice again which Adobe never sees 😕
