Footage and audio randomly deleting itself from project since 12.1.1 update

I'm working on a 20 minute video with 8 video layers and 10 audio layers and have noticed a very odd and insanely annoying bug with Premiere after the 12.1.1 update.

Basically, certain footage from both audio and video tracks are being randomly deleted, and the reason it's so noticeable is that the main interview clips have all had their audio deleted, twice!

I've went back to the backup project files from 30 minutes previous, and all the audio was there,
So between working on something completely unrelated to the interview and now (then), I don't remember highlighting all the interview audio and deleting it, twice.

It's also happened to one specific video track, some, not all, of the footage has been deleted, leaving some unsightly blank screens on the final render. Again, I checked a previous project backup and everything was there...

Anyway, before I decide to section myself for seemingly subconcious self destructive editing habits, I just wanted to check if anyone had experienced anything similar,
if not, then looks like I'm off to the loony bin on my own.

Thanks in advance.

Dan

I haven't seen others reporting this.  My best guess is that you're inadvertently selecting it while it's off screen, but linked to a clip that is visible.

Yes, I've done that myself.

I am having the exact same problem!! I don't select anything !! Just while I am working on it I notice some of the audio or sometimes footage I have previously worked on disappear !! It's driving me insane and it's a complete waste of my time ... I asked a friend if it could be the computer he said no it must be the software... even when I go get the auto save project I still lose part of my work. Let me know if you find what cause this . I have been using premiere for a while and never had this before. It happened 3 times already on the last project I am working on and it's giving me anxiety !!

Hi Nadia,

Sorry about this. This kind of thing happens while editing if it's what I think it is.

Sometimes an editor will mistakenly press the Delete key when a selected clip is out of the current view of the Timeline.

If the editor mistakenly deletes a clip out of view, they might think that "nothing happened" and carry on working. Later, when moving to the part of the Timeline that the editor mistakenly deleted the clip from, they believed that the application was responsible when it was an operator error.

I would think any "deleted clip out of view" action could trigger a warning if you mistakenly delete a clip out of view. Unfortunately, no such notification exists.

This error happens to me too. When things like this occur, you can usually track down the deleted clip fairly easily and cut it back into place in short order. If the audio or video portion of the clip is still in the Timeline, you can use the Match Frame command to call the clip back into the Source Monitor in short order.

If I do not understand your issue, and this is not the problem you are experiencing, please let me know. We can discuss that more here. 😉

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi, been working on the latest version of premiere pro for two short movies with the latest macbook pro.

So I do the sound design in premiere and many times I go back to my project and all the carefully cut audio clips and even music just disappears from the project. So I have to put them all back in by hand before they randomly move or disappear from the project. This is giving me anxiety too as I never know what is going missing or out of sync.

I have to check my 35min project all over to make sure it is all there. This is quite frustrating and unprofessional on adobe behalf. I've been using premiere for 25 years and even in the earlier version I didn't have those issues. This is not an operator error. Imagine tiding up your home and objects go missing or some place else, wouldn't it drive you mad.

I've had the exact same issue in a previous film one year ago. Thought there would be an update or a fix by now.

Thanks for your help.

Hi @Mme32135237vvlh,

I read your note. You say your clips are randomly going missing or are moving. Too weird. I don't experience that issue. What kind of media are you working with? Are these .wav files? Let us know and we can dig in further. Any sample files that exhibit this behavior? Hope the community can help.

Thanks,
Kevin

I am also having this problem. I'm very careful about selections as I separate the clips I need for different videos specifically to avoid selecting videos I don't want to select.
