When I import my 720p footage it gets squished into 4:3 in the preview and sequence windows. How do I fix this?

Looks like your pixel aspect ratio is off somewhere. Take a look at this Adobe help document, it explains it well. But comment back if you don't understand anything and we can help.

try editing a shot into an empty sequence and you should create a new squence with settings that match your source.
