Framerate of Caption File Changing when Imported to Premiere - Help?

I've been using Premiere to fix subtitles for over a year now, and for some reason this problem only popped up recently. I use .srt files, so I can see exact timecodes, and when they should appear. Recently, when I've imported them into Premiere, the timecodes change. This is causing a major drifting issue. The subtitles at the beginning seem to be okay, but the ones at the end of the film are around four seconds off.

Once again, when I open the .srt files I can see the exact timecode where the subtitles should be, and yet when I import them the timecodes change. It's very frustrating, and once again is only a recent problem. I have tried restarting my computer, and using both Premiere 2021 and 2022, and the issue remains.

I tried importing in a new sequence where the frame rate was set to 29.97 instead of 23.98, and the timing issue was much less aparent (though still an issue). This seems to point to some frame rate problem, though I don't know how to fix the frame rate import of an .srt file. After all, .srt files have no frame rate.

Anyone have a similar problem? How did you fix?

Well, no one was able to answer this question so I had to solve it myself. If anyone else has this problem, just clear the media cache and try again! Wishing everyone luck 🙂

Hi @Visit33145223bcyy,

I read your message. Can you try a test with a new project in the latest version of Premiere Pro? Let us know if the situation improves. There was a bug in 23.x that may have created this issue. Sorry about that.

Thanks,
Kevin

I tried a new project and it's still not working. Anything else I can try?

Do you know why this bug has only become an issue in the past week?
