GoPro Hero 6 Playback Choppy in Premiere Pro

Hey guys,

I have about an hour worth of footage from Maui with a new Hero 6 and I noticed the playback is really choppy in Premiere Pro. My computer is no slouch either (see here for specs: https://pcpartpicker.com/b/bcnnTW ). Footage was shot in 4K 60 FPS. I am playing the video back at 1/8 resolution in Premiere. It will play smooth for a little bit and then have periods where it is a bit choppy.

I know the Hero 6 uses the new HVEC codec and I have heard that a lot of machines struggle playing back due to the high compression of HVEC.

Looking for any suggestions on how I can fix this choppy playback issue.

Thanks!

Thanks fellas. Found a great YouTube video showing how to use the Ingest settings to convert to GoPro Cineform proxies using Adobe Media Encoder. Looks very easy. Thanks guys.

I recommend Cineform proxies for that media.

What was the video you found? I've been looking for a way to fix these laggy choppy videos, I have so much footage from California and I can't let it be a waste...
