Graphic movement issue

I have just updated to the latest version of premiere and have an old issue reappear. I have a mogrt which i use to track the movements of a person. The issue is, I move the graphic, but then have to click on the effects control panel to then move forward on the timeline. Before I could just shft + right arrow to move 5 frames forward then move the graphic. I previously found a fix for this but now can't solve it on this version.

Any guidance will be of assistance.

Can you do a screen recording of the problem?

I'm not sure exactly what you're doing and in what order.

Not really as the video is evidential,  I will try to explain better.

A dot created as a mogrt in AE then in premiere placed over a person's head, to follow the movements.

Drop the mogrt on the timeline over the video the position over the subject. Click the stopwatch on the graphic for position. Move the dot to the desired location which places a keyframe. Now on your program monitor press shft + right arrow should move 5 frames forward. Then move graphic accordingly then use same keystroke (shft + right arrow).  This then moves the graphic 5 points right instead of 5 frames forward. You would have to click on the effects control panel to allow the 5 frames forward to work.

It works if you use a shape layer and used to work with mogrt graphics. But now it doesn't.

Hi @paul32062743ku6s,

If you double click on the mogrt in the Program Monitor to enable direct selection, are you able to Shift+Right move it?

Does the Direct Selection by double clicking on the Program Monitor work at all? The blue outline should appear around the mogrt and in the Effect Controls panel Motion should be highlighted.

Alternately, try checking your Keyboard Shortcuts to see if the shortcut is correctly mapped.

You could also see if the Nudge commands work for your workflow and remap these how you need?

Double click does work, the blue nodes and tracking line appear and the effects control panel activates. I will look at the nudge commands when I am back in the office tomorrow. I know the keyboard shortcuts are set as I also have them mapped to a gaming mouse and a Wacom tablet.

Theresa, I believe the issue here is moving the playhead, not the graphic. With a PP graphic, he can move the graphic and still allowed to use shift-arrow to move 5 frames forward. With the AE graphic, (now) he has to select off the graphic in order to move the playhead (with shift-arrow). 🙂

Does the OP not need to click off the graphic anyway in order to create a new keyframe? Dragging an object creates a new keyframe but nudging does not.

He never mentioned nudging, except in response to a message. He want's to move the playhead. It's sort of a 'poor-mans' camera tracking. 🙂

You say a poor mans camera tracking, have you ever worked with poor quality CCTV footage. Camera tracking even in AE is challenging hence we have to take the manual approach. I haven't mentioned I work for a law enforcement forensic video unit. This is something we regularly have to do. I have created the mogrt in AE, which is a upside down teardrop with initials in the centre. This then provides me with an item I can use frequently having elements that can be changed colour scale rotation text etc. There are occasions we get some good footage that tracks a dream, but more often than not various framerates,  resolution and then throw in a native format codec that you have to convert just to even get it into a non linear editing suite. My world is quite different from most video editors.

Sorry mate, there was absolutely no disparagement meant. It's kinda do-it-yourself, tracking. I get it. Sometimes, it's easy do to just set some quick manual keyframes, and it looks just fine. I watched an AE tutorial sometime ago, and he did just that, it was on a brick road, so it was easy. 🙂

Anyways, one of the posts was off as to what you we're looking for, and it kinda thru the thread off. I was actually with you from the first post, and was trying to....uh,,, hm... nudge the post back on track!

I see what you are saying. From just a quick test, I can't get it to work on 24.5. I did get it to work using a tiny PP graphics layer. That might be your best shot. I ended up frustrated doing it your way, and just right-click the clip and replaced with After Effect, and then tracked the camera there.

I might go down the AE route, but I will have to assess due to time constraints.
