Halfway through an edit and suddenly premiere pro freezes whenever I import anything

I'm using the latest verion of premiere pro (22.3.1) on windows and everything has worked perfectly up until I tried importing an mp3 file (I have imported multiple into this project before with no issue) and suddenly the playhead wont move, I can't playback the video, everything becomes uninteractable.

But the software hasn't crashed, there's no errors and simply hitting ctrl + z to undo to before I imported the file brings it back to a working state with no issues.

I have cleared my cache multiple times, made sure I'm using the latest version, I have 400GB free on the SSD that the project is on.

This also happens when importing any file type, it's just reached a point where it can't handle importing anything.

If that doesn't work, try resetting the Workspaces:
Reset a workspace
Reset the current workspace to return to its original, saved layout of panels.
1. Do one of the following:
• Click the Workspace menu icon and select Reset to Saved Layout.
• Choose Window > Workspace > Reset to Saved Layout.
from here:
https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/workspaces.html

If that doesn't work, try Preferences > Audio Hardware and set Input to None.

If that doesn’t work, try updating or rolling back your graphics driver directly from the video card manufacturer’s site. If NVIDIA, do a clean installation of the latest Studio Driver (NOT the Game Driver)

If that doesn't work, try creating a new project and import the old one into it.

Thank you!

I had spent an hour with the adobe support agent who was clueless and remote accessed my computer doing more damage than help.

The solution that worked for me was updating my graphics driver and importing the old project into a new one.
