Has "Frame substitution recursion attempt aborting after multiple attempts on file" been solved yet?

I keep searching and see no solution to the "Frame substitution recursion attempt aborting after multiple attempts on file" error I keep getting. There's one post that recommends doing a render and replace, but I can't do that for 6 hours of footage.

Any suggestions folks? This is pretty annoying. Just trying to edit XAVC footage shot on a C70.

I ended up transcoding to ProRes, which may or may not be practical for you ... I've never managed to nail down why this seems to occur randomly on some projects but not others, on identical hardware/software/camera/codec/framerate etc setups ...
