Has the Label function on the timeline changed?

New Here ,
Jan 25, 2017 Jan 25, 2017

I'm using my "razor tool" in my timeline to isolate parts of clips I want to use. I then tried to use the "label' function to color those clips so I can easily come back to them. Then when I click on the any part of the clip not labeled the entire line changes color to those isolated clips. Is this a bug?

Hi Walt,

no, this is normal behaviour of Premiere, if you color one part of a clip, all other parts in the timeline will be colored.

If you want to have this be extended to your corresponded clips in your project folder, change this in project settings.

Little different, but an alternative: Set a marker and extend duration time to lenght of your certain clip part, then you will get a colored line at top.

Resurrecting this question... I have the exact same issue, but it didn't start happening right after an update. Could it be a project corruption thing?

Hmm... I know that Jogen said this is normal behavior, but I've never had it happen before. I couldn't find anything in settings either.

I ended up making a new project and importing my old one into it, and that fixed the issue.

using marker is the different process you are suggesting. I am having the same issue. If i need to cut some part of one single clip and apply red color Label on it. When i am going to the next clip that entire clip goes Red. And this was not the normal behavior of the premier before.

Go to File > Project Settings > General and uncheck the check box for "Display the project item name and label color for all instances"

Hey,

I know this is many years later but for this particular problem with labels what you need to do is:

- Find your way to and click on the wrench (Timeline display setting) inside the sequence panel. It's in line with Snap and Linked selection etc.

- Uncheck show source clip name and label

This should help you label parts of the same clip with different colors.

🙂

Hey Nick,

This was a change the devs made a few versions ago and quite a few people by surprise. Sorry about that.

Thanks,
Kevin
