Hide transcript tracks?

I'm working with a video that has an embedded transcript. The problem I'm having is every time I try to make an Insert or Overwrite edit from the Source monitor the entire transcript gets posted on the transcript tracks even if I'm just doing a 2 second insert. First off, why does that happen? Why would any track insert things outside of the In and Out point?

I can delete the transcripts and uncheck the track targeting for the transcript tracks (C1, C2, etc...) and this will allow me to do Insert and Overwrite edits without the transcript BUT I have to keep the transcript tracks visible at all times (just empty tracks) because if I delete them then every time I insert a new clip those tracks will be targeted again and the entire transcrip will post to those tracks

How do I hide the transcript tracks after I've untargeted them?

This is ridiculously unintuitive.

Left click the "CC" icon in the track header area. Pick "Hide all captions tracks." Also has "Show active caption track only" and "Show all caption tracks."

There are unassigned Keyboard shortcuts for those options also.
