How to disable auto media encoding - from the new 2022 update

Everytime  I drag a clip from a folder to my timeline or project window, Premiere automatically opens media encoder and begins injesting the clip in media encoder.. ( never done that before) This is nuts, it slows down my workflow ... Please let me know how to disable this, so I can stop having to force quit ME everytime I import a clip..
