Please tell us your system specs: OS version, Premiere and AE version, amount of RAM, Hardware specs including graphics card and source properties and sequence settings.  I had alot of problems with a first generation m1 macbookpro that were solved by updating to a later version of Premiere.    As a workaround, you might try running the intel version of Premiere using Rosetta...  or rendering out of AE with a high quality format and just bring that into Premiere...
