Hi im new to using premier and im trying to import a large mp4 file to edit on mac. The file opens just fine in imovie but when i try to open in premier it just opens a progress bar to say its importing but doesn't progress at all. Also tried opening in media encoder and the progress bar fills up but then just sits there and doesn't complete

A sixty-one hour VFR clip? With a nominal frame rate of 59.94fps? I am totally begoggled.

VFR is variable frame rate, and that clip varies from what, 5fps to over 60fps? That is nasty and nearly impossible to edit, you would need to convert that to CFR, constant frame rate, in either Handbrake or ShutteEncoder prior to importing the file into Premiere.

Not just re-encode, you need to make sure the CFR setting is actively "on".

Then ... you might be able to import and work with that file.

I'm wondering if there's a misunderstanding here.

When Premiere "imports" ... it doesn't copy a file anywhere. That only means it is storing a reference to where that file is parked on your computer system. So the file is still in it's original location, untouched.

What could you be filming that needs to run for almost 62 straight hours?
