Inconsistent Performance With Premiere Pro

I've been using Premiere Pro ever since I started getting into video editing, and it has its ups and downs.

I'm writing this as I'm recently becoming frustrated with the performance of Premiere pro, and I will note some of the issues I've been having.

Just to start off, not as a program issue, but rather on a cost end of things, we end up paying more for these services year over year, and yet there seems to be very minimal fixes to these technical issues.

Here are some of my specificiations, and maybe the community can provide some feedback, but having spent a decent amount of money on this hardware, I would assume it would be efficient with Premiere.

Specs -

RAM - 64GB

GPU - RTX 4070 Ti

CPU - Ryzen 9 5950X

I've already dedicated about 50GB of RAM to these applications fyi.

The version I've been running have been either of the 2

V 24.1 or 24.0.3

Issues I've been having

1. I've never had issues with exporting 4K footage, but there will be intermittent times where once I begin a 4K export, it starts to freeze up, make no progress, and use over 80-90% of my RAM, which then becomes unusable.

2. I've had issues where when I try and export my video, and it does not go to that tab, rather stays on the edit page. The only workaround for this seems to be restarting the app, which again, is not ideal as you then have to wait for all your files to load, which eats up so much of my own time.

3. Certain versions of Premiere pro just cause an insane amount of lag on playback, whether it's full quality, 1/2, 1/4 or 1/8, even while working on a 1080P project with not a lot of high end effects..

4. Whenever I try to move text, for some reason if you try to do it in one go through the effects panel, it does not respond and stays static in it's original spot. The solution I found was to have to do it in increments or to select it on the display, which again, is unefficient

5. With this issue, again happens sparatically, but more common than not, where when I launch Premiere pro, it crashes Google Chrome and I have to relaunch.. No fix for this unfortunately.

Any feedback is welcomed on the hardware I have, but I wish it could handle effects more such as grain without a decent amount of lag, or is the 5950x not sufficient enough?

Sorry for the rant, and I hope some can relate to some of the issues I have, but as a full-time video editor, these pains make it so much harder to continue to use Adobe products.

That wasn't a rant; those are totally reasonable frustrations. At first glance, your hardware specs seem capable.

To provide substantive response (i.e., "actually be helpful") on items 1-5, we would need any necessary files & media and, perhaps more importantly, steps to follow that reliably reproduce the behavior. Let me know if you'd like some secure upload space.

Thanks for reaching out, and for using Premiere Pro!

Bruce is awesome at troubleshooting these sorts of things. Take him up on his offer!

And post the discussions and results here so others can benefit also.

Am I reading this correctly? If you have Chrome running and you start Premiere it causes Chrome to crash? I wonder if there's some interaction between Premiere and Chrome that causes the crash, or just the fact that Premiere starting uses up memory and that's what causes Chrome to crash?
